This would be a great pickup. He's a very good player outside of his shooting.

I'd sign him just to get Joey off the team.

We have two players at SF better than Smith..Ariza & Brewer plus an emerging young player.

    NO. Lock this garbage up

Anyone know how much Cap Room we have right now? I'd use this years cap up to sign the guy to two year deal.

He is a 4 and would most likely back up D-Mo. You have a chance at having J Smoove playing over Dorsey or Black you take it.

I'd rather have Terrence Jones when he comes back.
    J Smoove is like Lin.

He can be a net negative at times. We don't want that on the team. Dorsey and Black, at least they don't go out there and chuck 10 threes a game.

You sign him in a heartbeat. Jones is out for perhaps the whole season and you need a rebounder/finisher in the worst way.

After he clears waivers i expect morey to pursue him immediately, talent like that just doesn't become available so early into the season.

He would actually be able to finish a layup/dunk unlike Dorsey and Black.

Package Jones or D-mo with others to get Dragic.

    Dragic/Beverley
    Harden/Terry
    Ariza/Brewer
    Smith
    Dwight/D-Mo

He's not gonna chuck threes here as he will be the 4th or fifth option. Let him do what he does best, run the floor, and rebound.

A line up of Bev/Harden/Ariza/J Smooth/Dwight gives you 4 elite defenders on the court at once.

Say what you want about Josh Smith the player on the contract he's on now, but Josh Smith on a BAE veteran contract is an ASSET both now and in the future.

The Rockets can offer more than 2 mill this year with the BAE. Thats more than most contending teams can offer, and the fact is, Josh Smith is still the clear cut starter. As much as I like Jones and D-Mo, Smith with all his flaws is going to beat them out most days.

Not sure if there are any other contending teams that can offer him a chance to be a starter and a chance to still put up huge numbers if he can still play at a high level. Can anyone else think of one he's actually going to be a starter, and potentially 3rd best player for?

Waive Dorsey of course (take a small cap hit this Summer), sign Smith the BAE, and use your expiring contracts (two of Shved, Terry, Papa, Brewer) to make a deal at the deadline.

How long until we know whether he is picked up or clears waivers?

From what we've seen in Detroit and Atlanta I doubt he complies with what the team wants, but if by chance Dwight molds this guy into a serviceable and unselfish player I'd be down for it.

I'm all for being able to replace Jones or D-Mo, so that we can have another expendable trade piece in the pursuit of Dragic. Scared of J Smoove though.
