Isn't Detroit supposed to be tanking this season?

The acquisition of Smith and Jennings were done with the intention of making a playoff run this season.

I hope not. That frontcourt isn't tank material on paper.

I really still think JSmith would be great on this team if he would accept his role.

Not at all. They spend their FA money on Jennings and Smith in hopes of making a Playoff run

Well, at least Mo Cheeks is a very fireable coach.

Joe Dumars may be the worst GM in the NBA. He consistently assembles random rosters of talented but ill-fitting players. He never has a long term plan and seems to build the team year-to- year.

The more I see, the more I assume lucked into a title by building a team that flew in the face of basically every champion before them and had a favorable matchup against an old Lakers team that took them for granted.

Josh Smith and "real offense" in the same sentence? I always thought of him a playing fake offense because of his low basketball IQ and propensity to shoot jumpshots that are way out of his range.

Nearly beat the Spurs later. A great team. Arguably the best defense of all time that year after the Rasheed trade.

Dumars is an extremely opportunistic GM though, that's true. Someone who collects the most talented players he can get regardless of fit and then tries to figure it out via moves.

This is why I'm glad we don't have any knuckleheads on Rockets. McHale would bench him for a month if he ran his mouth like that.

    I agree.

I'm hoping it never comes to that point, but I wonder if he could deal with a potential ego/rift between Harden and Dwight.

Rudy T and Rick were good at that. I don't know if JVG was a good mediator as much as he benched guys for that type of stuff.

Remember how Bonzi Wells did with Jeff? That wasn't pretty, and although I get why he didn't play, Bonzi could have been much better for us.

They've drafted pretty well. But the roster construction is just a disaster, and Brandon Jennings actually subtracts wins from your team.

-Bonzi was washed up and fat. Even when Adelman took over and Bonzi's attitude and conditioning improved, he really wasn't any good and wasn't really heard of again after Morey traded him for Bobby Jackson.

    - Adelman has had his own issues dealing with a player's attitude-- namely Tim Hardaway. Things got extremely ugly between the two and Hardaway hated Adelman for years after that. Do a google search and you'll see.

Adelman's Rockets also had its share of unhappy guys-- TMac, Aaron Brooks, Terrence Williams. The first two likely had something to do with external stuff like frustration with injuries and contract, though. Adelman also never quite managed to reach Trevor Ariza-- he was an inefficient chucker and even a rather ineffective defender in Houston.

As for Rudy: Did he ever reach Kelvin Cato? He also can be criticized for enabling Francis and Mobley to play dribble-mania ball.

    - In the end, there is only so much a coach can do for a guy's attitude. Nobody can just magically turn a player into a model citizen or a better basketball player.

    - Are there any signs that Howard and Harden have a clash of ego? They seem to get along just fine and seem able to discuss on court issues.

Currently 7th seed. Sitting at 4 games below .500 the east is turrible.
