As everyone has said, what an incredible year. Notable that Springer, Correa, and Marwin all got votes as well. Let's specifically hear it for Marwin. Led the team in RBIs. Third in OPS behind only Altuve and Correa. Only played 134 games with only 455 ABs. Played 6 different positions. He played 19 games or more at FIVE of them. That seems worthy of some sort of special award unto itself. When you have teammates like that, it's going to be hard to get Altuve to just talk about himself, even if he wasn't as humble as he is already.
And also @bobrek Fair enough. Not my thing, but I see where both of y'all are getting at. I can definitely see it as part of the game experience. Used to enjoy razzing the opposing goalies at Aeros games...back when we still had the Aeros. It's all good.
Classy things like this help me remember I actually like Judge.. it's his fanbase and the media I hate so much. Please put him on a different team.
Very well deserved. Judge had a phenomenal year but as some writers have pointed out Altuve was more consistent and a better hitter in the clutch. Also let's not forget his great fielding. Glad the voters saw that and gave him such a large margin of victory.
James Harden, Chris Paul, Clint Capela, Eric Gordon, JJ Watt, DeAndre Hopkins, Deshaun Watson, Carlos Correa, George Springer, Justin Verlander, Dallas Keuchel, Alex Bregman, and THE MAN Jose Altuve. LOOK AT THAT RIDICULOUS LIST! And I've left off Marwin, Morton, McCullers, Clowney, Mercilus, Fuller... guys that are indispensable but not quite superstars (yet!). Damn ya'll... it's fun to be a sports fan in Houston, TX right now. We are in a golden age.
I know, you'd think every major city has comparable stars, but look at like Atlanta- can you honestly name any star players from Atlanta except for maybe the Falcons QB? What about Detroit? Cabrera, Drummond.... Dallas- Beltre, Prescott, Elliott, Nowitzki... Boston- well, you've got some there- Irving, Hayward, Brady, Sale, Betts Seattle- Cruz, Cano, Wilson, Sherman, Phoenix- Goldschmidt, Greinke, Martinez...Booker?? Chicago- Bryant, the 2 guys from the Sox, Arrietta.... Yep, we have quite a few comparatively.
Jose's baseball-reference page shows him Cy Young winner too. Screen-shot before they fix it !!! His stats look like Ruth, Wilt, MJ, Bonds.
Just want to put this out there, Astros should take care of their own by locking up Altuve with an extension before adding any more major contracts to the 2020 budget.
MVP Finishes 13th - Springer 17th - Correa 19th - Gonzalez All First Time Top 20 finishes George gets his 1st Silver Slugger https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_2017.shtml#all_AL_MVP_voting
The voting results are now officially in across the multiverse, and Altuve won in each parallel universe, although their was clearly a close and contentious vote in sector 7 where Tom Cruise did very well due to his portrayal of Altuve in the Oscar winning Film, “Jose Altuve.” Sarris received a first place vote.
