Chuck is a better passer and Defender at the PF position, but he is not a Center. Hill pretty much is.
Exactly. Hill is not Brad Miller, he doesnt see the cutters and he's not a great passer. Adelman's system brings the bigs out to make room in the paint for cutters and screens for easy buckets. Jordan needs to be effective off the pick and roll and he will be once he learns how to put the ball on the floor on the drive.
He might have helped keeping David Lee and Co. from getting a couple of the offensive rebounds. It seems like Lee just jumped over our guys (Chuck?) for at least one of them. The Warriors got 14 offensive boards off of 41 missed shots, which is definitely above expectations. The Rockets got a lot of O-Rebs, too, but that doesn't excuse letting Warriors have tha tmany.
when your center or PF cannot protect the paint, SF(shane), martin, brooks have to help chuck and scola, and also because monta is a greater penetrator who can finish around the rim, therefore you have to leave GW with those outside jumpers...
Ok, and what in the past has lead so many people to believe that Jordan Hill is somehow a defensive juggernaut? Because he is tall? There is a reason why JJ is ahead of him in the rotation, it's because he has outplayed him. Hill will get minutes when he earns them.
He's definitely not. He doesn't have anywhere near the strength (nor brains) of Chuck. Jeffries I don't like much but at least he doesn't get lost.
Jordan Hill is not a rim protector. How did he get that reputation all of a sudden? Because he's athletic? Amare's athletic too, but he sure as hell isn't a rim protector.
Rim Protection. Hill can make people change their shot or think twice about driving to the lane just with having someone with his abilities in the paint. Given he is not a defensive juggernaut I know, but he has the tools the Rockets need and he will not get better unless he gets on the floor. The problem that upsets me about Adelman is that he is on the floor because Jordan is really having a hard time with Adelman's offense. Thats it.
To be fair, we really don't know if Jordan can protect the rim or not. He blocked a few key shots at the end of last season which gives people hope but until they play him who knows what he can do.
Amare does average around 2 blocks a game. He's a terrible defender who just plain out leaves his man but Amare has all the "abilities" to be a rim protector. He's just lazy. But this is not about Amare, its about Jordan Hill.
Depends on if you are in a rebuilding mode or a win now mode. I think they Rockets are trying to do both.
This. When a shooter is a hot as Monta was yersterday, you put a physical defender on him, and let him know you are there.
