I've never liked any big men with long dreadlocks, keep thinking of Brian Grant, Mikki Moore, Renaldo Balkman, and Etan Thomas of the world. So Hill better keep his dreads short.

I don't think Morey would trade Landry away if he didn't get a PF/C in return who could potentially fill that void left by Landry.
Hill won't be the offensive player that Landry is but he is bigger and more athletic and already possesses better tools on defense. He also a relatively good footwork for a young big "project."

Btw, here's a little homage and preview of the "reunion" between chase and Jordan Hill:

I remember the last time the Rockets got their hands on an athletic big man who didn't start playing basketball until his teens.

I don't think Jordan Hill will ever be the fan favorite like Landry was. It's easier to pull for an 2nd round underdog then a lottery pick burdened to live up to the expectations of being picked so high.

Btw, this is what Jordan used to look like without the dreads back his Fr. year

Like I said in the other thread.I have a feeling Hill is gonna be good. I have the same feeling about him I had about Carl landry before he got good. I just feel that the Rockets organization are good in turning young post players into monsters.

You can catch some of him in those.

Love that he had 21 points in his last Summer game

cant see how you can judge a guy who is shooting jumpers and doing post up moves against thin air on defense.

I'm getting a bit concerned that people around here are building him up too much. He absolutely has tons of stuff going for him. Being as long as he is and as athletic as he is isn't something that comes along every day. Especially combined with his work ethic, it is reasonable to be very excited.

But the situation that he is faced with - being thrown straight into the fire - isn't one that even normal rookies have to deal with. Most rookies spend 3 or 4 months learning what the team wants them to learn all through summer league and training camp. Of course, Hill did all that with New York, but he's going to have to throw large amounts of that teaching out the window. And of course Martin, Jeffries and the others have to learn a whole bunch of new stuff too, but they've had enough success that they will have the confidence that all veterans have knowing that they've been successful in the league before.

And on top of the fact that he's going to be thrown into a whirlwind having to learn new stuff, he's also a guy who was considered a bit raw to begin with. So his learning curve is being pushed and contorted from two directions.

So my point really is if the year ends and Hill isn't getting regular minutes, don't freak out. If that happens, then it seems to me that he is right on track for what people expected when he was drafted. Don't build him up into something he isn't. The way people are gushing, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll see a "Morey is an idiot, Hill is a bigger bust than Chris Washburn and Sam Bowie combined" if Hill doesn't come out and look like the second coming of Elvin Hayes in his first game.

He will not be a stud NBA player right off the bat with the Rockets. And that's fine. He's not supposed to be a finished product. If your expectations aren't blown out of whack by the hype, you shouldn't expect him to be. Whatever kind of player Hill is going to be, he won't blossom into a final product before the end of the year.

    Great post.

It will not stop all the "HILL IS A BUST!" comments that will be thrown out there the following month or so.

Is there any D-league deadline? Sned him to D-league just like what AB and Landry did.

    i'd be happy with that.

bottom line...he is young, long (7'2 wingspan and a legit 6'10), athletic (35 inch vert), a hard worker, a nose for the ball, decent mid range shot, no ego, and MOREY WANTED HIM. i have no clue what his upside is but i think those factors certainly give the kid a good chance at not being a bust.

He is a project but the most athletic Big man this team has had to work with since *cringes* Slow-mile.

All I expect from him is to work hard and start to contribute NEXT season. I don't want to see him playing in NBA games this year.

He needs to be sat down in a classroom and taught the fundamentals of the post game. I want to see him watching tape of Deke and Dream more than him dunking in the gym.

lets hope he doesnt turn out to be slowmile.. his upside is maybe a young jermaine oneal type player.. Jermaine Oneal took a few years to develop also on the blazers. So only time will tell,
