I'm a Rockets fan first, Hawks fan distant second. Trust me, JJ is one of the best two's in this league but he's not the type of player that can carry a contender. Neither can Iggy and JJ is better -- that's all i'm saying. Besides, there's nothing wrong with being a second banana. Yao is a second banana type player too but nobody calls him a rich man's role player. ;)

But anyway, I get what you're saying and we're basically on the same page. I don't want to derail the thread, though.

That was just idle musings of an opinion piece.

I just don't see Philly unloading Iggy for Me-Mac.

I would trade away McGrady for Iggy in a heartbeat (can Sixers be this stupid?).

However Iggy is not someone who can carry a team. He is a good second option and an excellent third option on a contender.

If memory serves me right he disappeared in the playoffs.

I'm not going to get excited about an opion piece but the fact is they need to fix things in Phili and getting $23 million off the books next year would help them. All GM's know Morey is no fool and should deal accordingly. We can just sit on T-macs contract if we have no takers so to those that think this deal could never happen I say , "In Morey we trust".

We would be winning championships... Who the hell cares about the cap?

Just in case you guys have not noticed, Elton has been playing like his old self lately...

At some point we have to make a huge deal, or else we will be stuck in mediocrity...

Too good to be true means too good to be true. Many teams are desperate to cut salary, but they still need to sell tickets. Exactly why you won't get Ellis, Iggy for that matter.

No way it would be a straight up deal like the writer says...

We would need to take back Elton Brand (Who is a stud) and Samuel Dalembert (Who is not bad) to get AI...

They are not good contracts, but do not underrate the players...

Adding Elton Brand, Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert would give this team a shot to win SEVERAL championships... At that point, WHO CARES ABOUT THE MONEY?

The guy makes a few good points in his article.

Fact is the Sixers are going nowhere fast at the moment

By moving on Iguodala, Dalembert and Kapono for McGrady and Cook they would slash their payroll for next season to a mere $34 million.

That gives them the option of signing a max FA to go with a core of Brand, Louis Williams, Young, Speights

I could think of worse ideas for them as a franchise?

Basically they dump Iguodala's long term contract in the hope of getting a real superstar (Wade, Lebron etc) and have the front and backcourt help to make it happen.
Plus McGrady might sell them a few extra tickets - and if he has ANYTHING left in the tank, then he might well be the 'star' they're looking for.

Could be worth a shot because it can't make them any worse.

Just put this through in the trade machine...

    Tracy McGrady
    Shane Battier
    Brian Cook

    for

    Andre Iquodala
    Elton Brand
    Samuel Dalembert
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Let me have my fun while it lasts...;)

I absolutely do a deal for Iggy. I believe he fits this team perfectly. No way Morey takes on Brand, SD I could see him taking.

@worzel_gummidge: I realize it's an opinion piece, but I wanted to see if anybody had any background info on the author vis-a-vis his credibility. That way we could determine the likelihood of a scenario like this. He does make solid points in the article though.

I would do it too. Iggy is a young, athletic, and explosive playmaker. He's a scorer, rebounder, good passer, solid defender, and he's clutch. He is turnover prone at times though. Dalembert would be a real good backup center as well. If Iggy was on the table, I would even take on Brand and his contract. Elton could play backup C too.

He averaged 21 ppg, 6 rpg, almost 7 apg, almost 2 spg in the playoffs, and hit this shot to win game 1 against Orlando:

Nobody in their right mind is going to touch Elton Brand. It's as laughable of a proposition as the Arenas suggestion was.

To reiterate what everyone has already said: I would J in my P if we were able to get Iguodala for McGrady. Doesn't matter what we take back if it were between Brand and Dalembert, as they are both able to contribute to our weakest position. I think all of our power forwards (hypothetically including Brand) are able to play center somewhat effectively, so trading away a non-factor for an All-star and another interchangeable piece in our frontline would be THE ideal solution to this McGrady situation.

Also shot about 45% from the field and about 40% from the 3 point line. Not bad at all. I don't know why I was under the impression that he struggled in playoffs.

Edit: Just checked. His numbers from 07-08 playoffs are pretty bad.

You see, I agree with that.

Elton Brand would be expensive, but he is far from a scrub. At what point do you say screw it, and push in the chips. You would be insane to turn down a Elton Brand/Andre Iguodala package for McGrady. Insane... Not to mention, Elton Brand has been a complete monster of late, and no one fits the bill more for a Rocket style SG than Andre Iguodala... Ready to run?

Dalembert + Iggy for TMac and a first? I'd be happy if we didn't do better than that.

I think the guy makes a lot of sense from Philly's side, too, if they have a decent GM (there's the real problem). If they end up with $13 million in cap room, sign another Brand who turns into a dud, they're right back in the same situation.

If I were Philly, I'd let the Rockets take any player they want for TMac, plus all the cash they're allowed to throw in, plus the Liberty Bell, as long as they get Morey to come over with him.

Boy, I hope we're paying Morey enough money.
