Joel Freeland's agent not happy with his D-League Assignment

It appears that the agent of Portland Trail Blazers forward, Joel Freeland, was not too happy when he received news the Trail Blazers were assigning Freeland to the team's minor league affiliate, Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League.

Rafa Calvo had this to say to HoopsHype:"It makes no sense for him to play there in order to adjust to the NBA considering he has been one of the top big men in the Euroleague for three years.

"It would make more sense if he had been injured and needed games to get into rhythm. Anyway, we want to be positive about it. Let's hope we're wrong and this helps the Blazers regain the faith they've always proved to have in Joel."

CSNNW.com was able to reach Trail Blazers' General Manager, Neil Olshey regarding the matter.

"Joel and Victor traveled to Boise with Jay Triano, had great attitudes and expressed their excitement to him about the opportunity to play", Olshey said. "I spoke with Joel this morning and he enjoyed the experience last night and was glad to be back on the floor playing basketball.

"We will continue to utilize the Idaho Stampede whenever we feel the development of our players will be accelerated by the opportunity to play game minutes in a competitive setting."
Freeland's rookie campaign has started off slowly, though he has improved in recent weeks. In 12 games, he has averaged 2.2 points, 1.8 rebounds in 10.2 minutes. But, he has shot an underwhelming 29 percent from the field.

The 6-10 forward had an excellent game last night to the tune of 22 points and 11 rebounds to help the Stampede get their first win of the season in an 105-91 victory over the Santa Cruz Warriors. Victor Claver added 11 points, nine rebounds, and five steals.

Freeeland and Claver will play one more game for the Stampede tonight before returning to the team for shootaround Sunday morning.
