Bah, you guys are comparing players coming into two very different situations. Mario Williams was a #1 pick in the first round coming into a bad team which at the time was getting first year coaches in the Head Coach and Defensive coordinator. He also had no decent leadership and injury problems early on. JJ Watt was a top 20 pick but came into a mature coaching staff, with a two vets lined up next to him. Granted, I do believe Watt has a hunger and passion that Mario Williams no longer has but they were/are both great players. JJ just fits the system better and is younger which is always a benefit. But trashing Mario is useless given when he was here he gave what he could and was still a very good pass rusher despite having subpar coaching coming from the top.
System, or no system... Watt accomplished feats as a rookie that is quite rare for any rookie defensive lineman including DOMINATING the line of scrimmage, batting down passes at will, and single-handedly dominating playoff games (the first one completely turning the momentum around). Now in year 2, game 1, after 0 preseason games... he single-handedly turns the momentum around again with a sequence that was almost Reggie White-ish, leading to two consecutive INT's and two consecutive TD's. Very rare for any defensive lineman type player to have that sort of impact. Mario has NEVER had a game as dominating as Watt as had the last three games he's played in (two playoff games, and yesterday).
I couldn't find a bigger one(image i mean) <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/hoy_en_la_revolucion/7974833350/" title="jj-watt by *The last son of krypton*, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8307/7974833350_9dca69d4ca.jpg" width="498" height="500" alt="jj-watt"></a>
Its always funny to read all the angry posts in the 2011 draft thread, when the texans drafted Watt. people wanting Nick Fairley, Prince Amukamara, etc.
I could live without that finger wag (but wont lose sleep). Watt's play speaks for it's self! It's amazing watching him turn into this DPOY type player before our eyes... Go JJ!!
