Whoa. Are we sure that he's not HORRIBLY mispronouncing some other word? I mean, I want to say he's not and chastise the guy, but how can he be so stupid?
"I’m disappointed that anyone would think I would use that word." the level of arrogance right here... i think he's been linked to past racial slurs before as well, could be wrong though.
Trying to imagine what word he was trying to say that ended up sounding like "chink." Any ideas? And even if we accept Redick's explanation, how in the world did it get past the video editor?
Disgraceful response by Redick. Being "tougue-tied" is just a far-fetched excuse. And even if was unintentional, he should at least apologize.
Well, in Mandarin "Happy New Years" is pronounced "Xin Nian Kuai Le", where "Xin" is pronounced as sheen. It is entirely possible if he had read it somewhere that he thought "Xin" was pronounced chin instead and thought he was saying "new" fans. Either way, he's going to get a lot of backlash for this though. For those who are wondering: - Xin = New - Nian = Year - Kuai Le = Joy/Happiness Also, if you heard the phrase "gōng xǐ fā cái", that means someone is giving you well wishes for prosperity. Usually for kids, that also comes with a red envelope with money or candy or money and candy.
White folks call every race thats not white a racial slur. What else is new? You know, white supremacy and priveladge man. Durr.
This is the funniest thing I've ever seen. He wasn't aware of the definition of chink. Hilarious. I'm heading over to Rotoworld to see if this has been updated into Reddick's current blurb. Lucky we didn't sign him or it would have really messed up our season.
Clearly he is saying Chank. We all know how the Chinese love those gastropods. Definition of chank plural -s : any of a family (Xancidae) of tropical heavy-shelled pear-shaped gastropod mollusks; especially : a species of the Indian Ocean (Turbinella pyrumsynonym Xancus pyrum) commonly appearing in Hindu religious pictures and writings.
No surprise. It's Redick. Always got a bad vibe from the guy, dating all the way back to his days at Duke.
