we had no big names to attract to the team at that time. i dont want to get into yet another tanking vs no-tanking argument. if we weren't in a position to win, and the team had a chance to get a player which might improve the team, dont want to get into another lin debate as well, but will definitely improve the visibility of the team, whats the harm?
lin wasnt a head case that disrupted chemistry to the team for that matter. at worst, he was another body to the roster and helped the owner make money that he could spend on in the future, perhaps on a player that would put the team over the hump.

Yeah Bulls have actually been incredible at drafting.

Drafted Noah, Gibson, Mirotic, and Butler.

Gibson would be damn near close to a 20/10 player if he had a starter role somewhere.

He seems to be having a breakout season.

    If so, smart.

No, Hayward is better than Butler. Jimmy Butler is less efficient and older than Hayward while playing on a better team with a better system. Hayward can also play point forward, which is a skill superstar wings are supposed to possess.

Hayward is worth more than a max. Butler is a near max player. Parsons is a 10m player.

-Butler is more efficent than Hayward this year.

-They both sucked in efficiency last year.

-2 years ago they were both above average but not great.

No way Hayward is a max player. He sucks on defense and is nowhere near elite on offense.

Max contracts are for players who are elite at something.

Hayward is better on offense while Butler is better on defense. Butler at this point looks like he may develop into someone similar to Paul George. Hayward is not worth the max.

Yep. I'd be more willing to pay Butler the max than Hayward.

I don't think it's a "fact of the matter" when you don't know absolutely for sure. It's your opinion. It could be the organization didn't want to endure the public scrutiny like the 76ers are facing now because of "tanking". Your view could be somewhat right or it might be something else all together, but don’t act smug like you know for sure based on your observations.

Also, how does the Lin signing not make sense from a competitive angle given the situation at that time? He was coming off "Linsanity", Rockets had traded Kyle Lowry, Goran Dragic was lost to free agency, and we had yet to acquire Harden. I'm pretty sure Lin's marketing ability was a factor in the process of signing him and giving him that poison pill contract, but to say the Rockets signed Lin just because of his marketing ability and not to make this team better from a competitive standpoint seems a bit absurd.

No in 2014 max contracts are given out to positions where talent is scarce.

Talent is irrelevant, its all about the economics of the position. There are a lot of average players at SG & SF.

Hayward is a top 5 player at the position.

HMMMMM. Yes. As far as money goes Centers > SGs > SFs > PFs >> PGs. Unless a team is getting Westbrook or Paul, I cannot see why any team would offer anything close to Parsons money for a PG.

    Really?

The Rockets didn't pay a crapload. The Lakers are paying a crapload. The Rockets had him on the books for nearly $17m over 2 years, but paid just over $10m in that time.
They didn't profit 'due to marketing'. Can you name the significant profit spike that came when we signed Lin? No? That's right, because it followed the consecutive signings of Harden, then Howard. That's when the money started coming in.

And as far as other moves 'not making sense' - well, one assumes that Morey is slightly more astute than you, and that many of the signings DO in fact make sense, it sometimes just takes a bit of hindsight to see it (for us).

i thought the team was stealth tanking when they signed lin, the guy was all hype no skill, which is the best way to tank
