Was listening to 790AM this morning and they had Jeff Van Gundy on for most of the morning. Went through quite a few topics such as how to fix flopping(Scola mention), how to fix tanking, draft order, Steve Novak, and starting (talk about Lowry) among other things. Figured some of you folks may be interested to hear it, I always enjoy listening to Van Gundy. Link below. http://www.sports790.com/cc-common/...selected_podcast=041812_3_1334761607_4370.mp3
Does anyone here listen to 790 consistently? I was wondering if they are any good...to me they seem like odd man out of the sports radio stations in town.
I listen to them exclusively and believe they are the best in town. Charlie P. is probably the best in Houston. Matt. Adam and Lance is a great group in the mornings. Matt Thomas amuses me, personally. All the others are meh.
i could listen to jeff van gundy all day. gives rockets props, man...i wish we could bring him back part of the organization. next to bill worrell?
I listen mostly to 790 because 610 always has on McClain and talks Texans 99% of the time. Their only good show is J & R drive time show.
No it is not. You know why the rockets got the dream? or why the Thunder got good? or why the cavs won 60 games? He made stupid statements like he wanted a draft for the NCAA. I mean you already don't get paid. Now you get forced to go somewhere too?
It was an entertaining idea -- to see how we can improve recruitment for college ball. He discussed taking the agents out of the equation, using something about graduation rates to figure out top picks, etc. These things are clearly theoretical, just trying to see what would happen if teams in NCAA would tank, and have Senior players rotting on the bench before being shipped off to the NBA Draft. This is a *legitimate* point -- that tanking can easily spiral down to a terrible basketball league, and that at some point, people will need to start thinking about how to make it better. He gave a lot of credit to the Rockets front-office -- that the Rockets organization is giving the fans something to cheer about. Technicality of getting higher picks is fine, but you gotta give credit where credit is due, the Rockets organization gave a pretty good fight (Except the last few ones, I'll admit), and it was fun basketball to watch. I don't even think I heard JVG pointing out tanking as something that the league should completely remove, just frowned upon it for what that can turn out to be (Bobcats), where teams tank for more than 1 season and still get nothing out of it. To me, it comes down to this -- can we tank 2-3 seasons and have a good percentage of chance of us landing a championship team? Maybe in the 84 draft where every other pick in the top-10 was a hall-of-fame-er , yeah. In today's league, I'm not so sure. By the way Cavaliers still don't have a ring. Neither does LBJ/Durant. We'll see where this season takes us, I guess.
Yeah, I could listen to him all day as well. When I turned on the radio on the way to work, was definitely an awesome surprise to hear the ongoing interview.
