Maybe disciplinarian was the wrong word, but he's highly organized and expects guys to execute his plan. Here's a good article on him https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...-assistant-Jeff-Bzdelik-builds-a-11108083.php Some of my fellow Airman that new him at the USAFA spoke highly of him and did say he held players accountable. I know a service academy is far from NBA, but that had stuck in my mind from years back. I like Roy, but I see him more as a mentor vs mastermind. I guess we'll see soon enough.
In 2004, Bzdelik and his family suffered through his teenage daughter, Courtney's brain surgery...successful removal of a benign tumor. But it scared him, and after the Nuggets, he chose to remain in Colorado for two college gigs for awhile after (driving distance from Denver) rather than seek NBA gigs and move his family. After Air Force and Colorado, he then took the Wake Forest job where Courtney got into undergrad. I can imagine at this point in his career, it wouldn't take much to bring back those memories of family first.
I bet the Rockets had no idea this was coming. They have no contingency plan for this possibility. And no one remembers anything they were coached up on by Jeff. All is lost.
I heard D'Antoni told Keith Jones to backup Jeff's computer and Keith accidentally reformatted it instead.
Perhaps CP3, Tucker and even Harden can push Bzdelik's beloved culture but the thoroughness and ability to adjust due untold hours of film watching was all Coach B.
Yea, I'm all caught up in how it affects our team, when this is pretty much the most logical conclusion. Wish him well, he helped us a lot.
Woodson was "hired" as AHC with PHX early this summer but at the last minute didn't take it. It was even reported by the local press he got the job. https://www.brightsideofthesun.com/...ant-on-igor-kokoskovs-staff-nba-breaking-news "A report in May indicated that the Suns were expected to hire Mike Woodson as the new lead assistant on Kokoskov’s staff, but no deal had been formally reached at that time. It’s unclear whether Woodson, a former Knicks head coach and Clippers assistant, still fits into Phoenix’s plans or whether he’ll land with another team now that Prunty is poised to become Kokoskov’s right-hand man." https://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/suns_hiring_joe_prunty_as_lead_assistant/s1_14822_26559821 I'm wondering if Rox new Jeff was considering retirement and reached out to Mike Woodson to let him know they might have an opportunity. It's fishy he didn't take the PHX job when all reports were that he was hired.
Welp this is blows. I think the Rockets knew about this for a while now though. I think they gave him time to train Roy and that is why the coach of the Vipers was moved up. Unless there was a scandal or personal issues I don't think he would have quit when we are literally on the verge of possibly winning it all. Something is up and I would not be surprised if our defense is not successful that Woodson jumps in.
