The WSJ editorial board that impresses you so muc is the basically the collective name for the right wing hack/pundit/blowhards/fossils that write their editorial pieces (and the dregs that don't even make it to print that they save for opinionjournal) - it's about as impressive as being on the board of Heritage or any other establishment wingnut org, and is generally walled off from the regular journo's (though Murdoch has changed that I understand) Less vile than Ann Coulter? Probably...I dunno, but dranking from the same dumb kool ade, definitely.

The WSJ editorial page went off the deep end long before the Murdoch era (proably during Reagan or Nixon, don't care enough to really research it) but was responsible for sanctioning such impressive pieces on how like the Clintons were probably running drugs out of an airstrip in Arkansas and totally killed Vince Foster.

Anyone can post an editorial rebutting everything he said but so what? What does it change?

Some of you think because you find a black person or latino or whatever that agrees with your close minded agenda then that means something. Conservatives can search out the exceptions that agree with them but come election time they lose that vote 10-1.

So yeah, go find that one guy that grew up in a project that went to Princeton and celebrate him as an example of what is possible in this great country and then go on to ignore the thousand others that didn't not because the odds at every step since birth were incredibly against them but rather because they have a culture of dependency and didn't work hard enough. Then wonder why they won't vote for you. Good job.

Limiting school choice and forcing people to stay in crappy public schools is one of the worst ones today.

    But competition is evil.

The "bootstraps" argument is really popular among people who are smug in their own station in life. It implies that they alone are responsible for their own success, and therefore makes their success prima fascia evidence of their own superiority. "I succeeded because I was better than you."

It completely rules out the effects of parenting, circumstance, quality mentorship, and just plain luck on how you turn out.

In order to eliminate ego, poverty is best observed from an epidemiological point of view, examining populations as groups, realizing that every population has people that will be healthy or sick, and the goal of intervention is to help people be well. And it is quite free from judgement, unlike the bootstraps argument. This eliminates the self gratifying narrative of the heroic individual, which is admittedly appealing to someone with a big ego, but ultimately not real.

If they want the 1950s America back they need to reinstate the 1950s tax rates on the rich.

Oh and as for the Reagan comment earlier here's more of Reagan's legacy as written today:

Damn that man destroyed this country.

Cute. Maybe you should be refreshing the Fappening and stocking up on kleenex rather than diving the world's problems witha dog eared copy of Atlas Shrugged, like many a teen before you.

Get blacks and whites to move back together with each other and have a common culture and shared self-interests; not only will the problems diminish but we'll stop reporting them in amplified tones for their respective audience.

Riley has a college degree and (as a minority) interacted with mostly whites, so according to bigtexxx he's not black at all.

I see the argument more as crappy government policies, for example forcing kids into bad public schools or economic policies that raise unemployment.

I agree with the "Blacks must help themselves" statement....but for different reasons.

Those are issues to discuss amongst ourselves.

OK Brody. I see you've elaborated on your treatise with one sentence about "forcing kids into bad schools and bad economic policies.

I don't even think you're trollin, you're actually trying, and it's like a passed out junkie slowly vomiting up word fragments from the guts of a videotape of a newt Gingrich interview from 1997.

    Turn over 4 u choke.

Black success in Western countries is a function and subset of white organization and inclusion, whether you like it or not.

Nice tryhard post, complete with a tired internet meme. About as successful as the 10 seconds of Air America.

Education is a public good and should forever remain even if it isn't a fully competitive market. You think that free market competition is the end all be all and it isn't. Even Mises understood that there are some areas where the competition you envisions leads to suboptimal outcomes on average. Education is one such area.

Stop whining about how non-competitive the education market is and start focusing your fetish for competitive markets on areas where it can have a net positive effect like housing in San Francisco or needless licensing in dentistry or something.
