I'm sure they do. Jalen seems very confident.

I agreed with you on the idea of trading Asik for a borderline all star PF or additional cap space. However, IF Howard wants to keep Asik and it will get Howard to sign on the dotted line, I go ahead and keep Asik.

Also, seeing how well the Pacers played the Heat (with inferior talent) and then seeing San Antonio (big inside with Duncan and Splitter) has made me consider the possibility of keeping as many physical/long/strong players inside. Right now there is a real dearth of quality big men in the NBA and it shows come playoff time.

I have no doubt the Rockets probably win more games during the regular season dealing Asik for a PF and Dwight Howard than having Asik come off the bench and rolling with the existing PF's. However, come playoff time it would be a different scenario.

The real hope is that our defense goes from the bottom 1/3 in the NBA into the top 15%.... It is not a coinidence that two teams that really can defend down the stretch are in the Finals.

Why does it matter what position it is...if he is your 3rd-5th best player and gets 30+ minutes a game.

Kevin Martin backup SG 11.5 million
Ginobli back up sg 12 mil
Mcgee back up C 12 mil

I am sure there are more this was just off the top of my head.

The NBA has changed. Positions are now more fluid than they were 10-15 years ago. You would see Asik and Howard both on the floor at the same time for stretches of the game and in particular match ups.... it would be a similar situation to Chandler Parson's playing the 4 some this last season.

The line ups would very a great deal. I could see a situation where Parsons is the 4, Harden the 3, Lin the 2 and Beverley the 1 for stretches of time.

Kendrick Perkins is basically (should be) a backup Center.

asik is far better than any of them and would play a larger role than any of them.

asik's contract is a bargain even if he is coming off the bench. like someone mentioned already, there are backups being paid way more than asik. just because he is a center doesn't mean he should get paid less, actually in a league where there is a shortage of big men he should get paid MORE

Unless you are able to obtain an upgrade at the power forward position through trade, you definitely have to keep Asik on this roster. His presence gives us defensive flexibility between the 4 and 5 that other teams would have a nightmare breaking down.

I dont see how spacing the floor with asik and howard will be effective in a lineup
