i know that. I'm talking about one of the greatest plays ever made by a SS was made by jeter against Jeremy Giambi. 2001 ALDS. Jeter wasn't Ozzie smith but he was a good SS
Every defensive statistic ever created begs to differ.......Adam Everett once hit a home run, not sure that makes him a great hitter?
No, he was an absolutely awful SS, but he did have a cannon for an arm. A lot of people overrate his defense because when he guesses correctly and makes a strong throw it looks like a great defensive play and when he guesses wrong, he's so far away from the ball it doesn't look like he should have been able to get it. Even when he was younger that's how he played because his range has always been extremely poor. Another thing that has fooled some into thinking that he's worth a damn is that when he manages to get to a grounder, he'll often turn what should be a routine and very easy out into something flashy and ridiculous by using a jump throw technique. While that may look good on sportscenter, it leads to far too many runners being safe when they should be out which hurts the team. A quick look at stats shows that Jeter has cost the Yankees 181 runs more than a replacement level short stop in his career.....the most anyone has ever cost a team because no one that terrible at fielding has ever gotten that much opportunity to hurt their team defensively. In short, Jeter should have been a DH 15 years ago.
Wait, did JJ announce that he's going to play baseball? Why are y'all arguing about a Yankee on a JJ Watt thread?
He was a good player sure, but in his prime was a massage negative on defense but he played on such good teams it didn't matter
Does anyone have video of the full press conference? They have bits on the Texans website but not the full video. Even the audio works for me because I know they had it live on 610.
Houston's J.J. Watt Hits the Weight Room at 4 a.m. After Signing Record Contract http://m.bleacherreport.com/article..._campaign=programming-national?is_shared=true Pretty much says it all.
Also heard he helped clean the toilets and fold the gym towels...after skyping with sick children in Africa, of course.
He would have been a fine 2bman. The Giambi play, if he had any baseball acumen whatsoever, should have never happened: all he had to do was slide. Exhibit 1A in why Beane's "**** doesn't work in the playoffs". Awesome thread derail, btw.
To be fair if Watt did play baseball he'd probably be an all star. His work ethic wouldn't allow for anything less.
JJ is the type of player every fan wishes they had on their team. Good leader, helping hand in the community, hard working, committed to being great, good personality, the list goes on & on... No brainier of the year here.
