Awesome news! Deal seems about right. I actually thought he might get more. I'm just glad we gave this contract to JJ instead of Mario.
I'm surprised it's so little, given that I had fully expect it to go into franchise QB money in the $120mil range at least on the surface. Although I guess since it's an extension, it's a little suppressed in terms of value. That's actually one ridiculously large contract I can envision an NFL player actually finishing. If Watt even just maintains his play, he's easily worth $17mil/yr.
So much awesome in this. This just shot up to best gif of all time. It was badass on the show but the gif somehow surpasses it.

Eh, you had him for at least four more years guaranteed. Is he going to be the most dominant defensive player in football five years from now? I doubt it.
Hell yes. So glad that they got this done, and I don't think it's that bad if he keeps up with his past production.
Here's how I Calculated In The other thread: Option year: $3 mil Franchise tag years: $15 mil (x3) That gets you to $48 mil. Last two years are totally free free agency$ $25 mil (x2) That gets you to $98 mil, which is pretty close. Spread it out evenly over the life of the contract. In that scenario, JJ still does better than no agreement + franchise tags + 2 years FA, but not so much more that it really hurts the Texans. Solid deal for both dides. JJ gets more security, Texans lock up 2 years of FA. Good deal for both sides. I don't think anybody "got over".
For two of those years the franchise tag might cost more per year than this contract then he walks or gets more money elsewhere.
J.J. Watt is absolutely worth keeping on a 6 year contract for 99 million. Great job by the Texans and Watt to get this done.
