The luxury tax is usually around 70 million. I believe this season it was 70.3 mil. Once they go past that, they gotta match dollar for dollar. For example, 5 mil over the tax line would cost 10 mil. The new tax system starts next summer. The cap is a soft cap, not a hard cap like the NFL. You can go over to sign your own free agents. You need cap space to sign free agents from other teams.
Are you kidding me? This is horrible news for the Morey brigade. You struck out in the draft, you struck out via trades, and you struck out w/ you're FA signings. This just clarifies we have no direction at this time. Morey needs to step down
Morey signed both Asik and Lin to VERY reasonable deals. He really didn't overpay by much. Not a surprise if both get matched.
Right, cause we all know how legit JA "L.A. is the only city that matters" Adande is. But you're a Morey hater, so it's no use trying to reason with you.
It was worth a try, but once again, we aren't in total control of the issue. (I'd still like to see the Rox scouting reports on Zeller though, he did seem like the pick as a matter of skill and need. They must have thought lowly of him)
They were set to draft him at 18 and they knew Dallas were not going to draft him at 17, but Cleveland swooped in. They liked Lamb and White better.
I don't understand why people don't trust Adande. He is more reliable then most of the crap posted on here.
It's always the same with these analysts, half of them says one thing, other half another and then someone is right and can't sleep for a week because he guessed some irrelevant thing "wrong half" predicts something new next day and waits for bragging rights..
Can you explain how Howard would sign with a Nets roster that will hit max cap space off of a handful of their players?
Let him go.... We'll get a high pick next year and have so much money, to offer Bynum and Josh Smith massive deals. ? Shabazz/Lamb Smith/Parsons Motie/White Bynum good for me
Why aren't we allowed to up the offer for these Asik and Lin? Letting teams get into a bidding war would help the player truly make what the market demands.
To the folks who are complaining about how Asik sucks and how he's overpaid at $25M for 3 years, answer this: Why do you think that the Bulls are not only considering matching, but apparently strongly leaning toward doing so, despite the "poison pill" effect of the contract and their luxury tax situation? Are the Bulls run by idiots? Do you think you know basketball and Omer Asik's abilities better than Tom Thibodeau does?
Man, you have too many fantasy and 2K players who can't see past the PPG averages... nothing will change their minds. Even when last year Chris Kaman made 12.7M, Camby made 12.9M (and though he's better offensively than Asik, not almost 5M better), Kwame Brown made 6.8M, Jermaine O'Neal made 6.2M, Mehmet Okur made 10.9M, and DeSegana Diop made 6.9M. And, if we get the guy he'll make just over 5M for the next two years (yes, the 14M in year 3 won't be nice, but a lot can happen before then - he's either proven his worth and we're "ok" with it, or he's appealing to someone as an expiring). If Joe Johnson, Rashard Lewis, and Gilbert Arenas can be traded with the contracts they had, Morey should be able to move a just-turned-28 year old defensive minded seven footer. It's much easier to watch a video by a comedian/"sports journalist" than it is to actually research what PROFESSIONAL scouts and coaches have said regarding the guy. Easy pickings 'cause of the PPG avg.
Those that throw around Cato and Swift's name in comparison with Asik are being ridiculous. This guy has ONLY been known as a DEFENSIVE paint protector and someone who can play the pick and roll (which is what so much of the league is now). Swift and yes, Cato too, were "supposed to be" much better offensive players than anyone has ever said Asik is or will be. There is no comparing them to this guy. Like Dragic getting 7.5M from Phoenix (with 1M possibilities for being an All Star), this is simply the market value for a young seven footer who can play one or both sides of the court very well.
Exactly this one hundred times over. The collective "er mur gurd! how could Morey offer this contract?!" conversation should probably swing to, did Morey offer enough money if the Bulls were willing match the "poison pill" contract for their backup center.
