I was being deliberately snarky here. What you have to understand is the atmosphere in which all this stupidity came about. The city of Irving is not very diverse at all with a small but growing Muslim population and the mayor is a proud white Texas Republican Islamaphobic idiot. She's consistent railed against the Muslim community with her baseless claims that their goal is to seek to impose Sharia Law in Irving and the rest of US. So, like all good white Texas Republicans, she's using bigotry and intolerance to advance her personal political agenda - a tactic which works quite well here in Texas I might add. Irving is "Trump Country" and, as we all know, there's NO place for anyone who worships Islam in Trump's America. Anyway, into this atmosphere steps the Irving ISD which is overwhelmingly white in composition especially amongst its administration. These so-called "educators" have demonstrated (and it has been documented) that there are a different set of standards for students that depends on the color of their skin tone. The prevailing attitude there is that those students are not expected to possess the same intellectual talents and abilities of their white peers. So when Ahmed brought his clock to school to show his teachers what he'd made, all they saw a brown-skinned Muslim kid with an electronic device so he just had to be some sort of "junior jihadist" out to blow up the school. They isolated him, called the police who grilled him for 2 hours in an attempt to force him to confess that he'd made a fake bomb and then handcuffed him and paraded him in front of everybody. Not once did they notify his parents which is what schools do when the child in question is white. So, you see, I was using snarkiness to point out the ugliness and bigotry of the ones responsible for turning an event so innocuous into an international embarrassment.
