i don't buy this strip club excuse. a lot of people around the country hate harden and the majority of them are casual nba followers who know next to nothing about him off the court. i think the more likely explanation would be the osama beard that turns people off

Reasons why James Harden gets less media hype than he should:
1. His moves aren't athletically amazing.
2. He scores many of his points by working the rules and going to the line. A lawyer. Boring.
3. He's weird. Not relatable, doesn't give good interviews.
4. He plays for Houston.
5. He's never gone to the finals as a starter.
6. He doesn't play great defense. Lots of stars don't. But if he played better D, he'd get a bit more hype.
7. He has a big beard. Some people don't like that.
Etc., etc. Strip clubs wouldn't make the top 10.

Was it said as if we're supposed to take it as "insider" info? Or was this just his opinion?

I like the distinction made between being respected and being fawned over. Harden is respected for the body of his career, but not fawned over for his lack of crazy athleticism or god-like shooting. In the past 4 years, He has put himself in the category of the Top 5 but is judged just as harshly against those same players benefiting from having co-star teammates (this year's different obv, but sorta not).

We all know that the real reason Harden isn't fawned over by national media circles is that Harden's not branded by Nike. He gets points docked off for taking the unconventional route throughout his career.

I think we're all waiting for the day the national media flips the script and starts praising Harden for what he's accomplished. It's not coming unless we win a chip and Harden wins the FMVP.

 

Houston has always had to force-feed the national media to put Houston in any sort of light around the country.
