And certain sects are sociopathological, like the Wahabi sect in Saudi Arabia, supported by the government of the Kingdom. While I am not religious myself, to be clear, I think it is far past time that one the biggest "secrets" of the fight against Islamic related terrorism, Saudi Arabia's support for that extremist creed of Islam, to remain a secret, for all practical purposes. It should be exposed. Your average American, for instance, hasn't a clue that this is going on. They know SA sells the world one hell of a lot of oil, that it's a kingdom, and some even know there are "countless" princes running around in Europe drinking, whoring, and generally doing the opposite what of the "state religion" of Saudi Arabia sucks up to. That many here in D&D are aware of the state of things in the Kingdom, my opinion is that the bulk of the country, and the bulk of the people in the countries that are our allies, are pretty clueless about it, spending far more time worrying about who's going to play in the World Series, or the recently ended the World Cup. All in my humble opinion, of course.

It's a terrible mess, though one could say its a continuation of the series of mass ethnic exodus from Iraqi neighborhoods and enclaves from the power vacuum caused by Saddam's ouster. Tens of millions of Iraqis have left their homes as neighbors were pitted against neighbors and criminals just by virtue of who their families were or what they worshipped.

I guess that was the origin of how Iraq will draw its own ethnic borders if it comes to be, though if it does, there's still a long way to go.

P.s. Wahhabism is the country's latent response to how tightly coupled the United States has become with SA's economy, military and possibly culture among their elites. No matter what excess they see within the ruling class, what they see around them inside their country is still a woefully lagging near third world nation.

Not really befitting of what should be the pinnacle of Muslim society.

The House of Saud allied with the Wahhabists in their fight to reclaim the Arabian Peninsula after their exile in the 1700s, well before KSA cemented a relationship with the USA circa 1945. The Wahhabi movement gave Saud the religious component of his claim to the throne. Saud has political authority and Sheikh has religious authority. That's the theoretical arrangement anyhow.

Hmm, I didn't tie the two together in their past. Just assumed that Wahhabism was a new ultraconservative offshoot...

Organized religion is one of the reasons I believe there is no god.

SMH at strangers killing strangers for having differing beliefs.

Historian Lambastes the West for Staying ‘Bizarrely Silent’ on Plight of Iraqi Christians

A historian is taking aim at the West for staying “bizarrely silent” on the plight of Iraqi Christians, calling his claim ironic considering the rampant violence and instability that unfolded following the U.S.-led Iraq War.

“The West’s direct intervention in Iraq created Hell on Earth for its Christian citizens, while the West’s lack of action in Syria (out of deference to its failings in Iraq) has permitted a regrouping of Islamist forces and the opening of a second front against Christians,” Dr. Timothy Stanley wrote in an op-ed for the Telegraph. “The lesson is: ‘either leave other countries alone or, if you must intervene, do so with consistency and resilience.’”

The historian said that it took mere weeks for an ancient culture to be entirely wiped out, calling the infractions against Christians “a war crime that, strangely, no one seems to want to talk about.”

Stanley went on to say that invading Iraq, creating chaos and then pulling out has not benefitted those left behind. Despite being responsible for the upheaval, he said that the West has opted not to speak out about the death, destruction and murder befalling Iraqi Christians.

“Yet, having been so intimately involved in the collapse of Iraq, the West is now bizarrely silent about events in Mosul,” Stanley wrote. “The streets of London fill with thousands marching against Israel’s military operation in Gaza; the West rails mightily against the Russian separatists in Ukraine. But of Iraq there is nothing.”

He continued by asking an important question: “If we don’t speak out for Christians, who will?” Read Stanley’s op-ed here.

The historian’s comments come after Christians in the Iraqi city of Mosul — which is currently being held by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a radical group seeking an Islamic caliphate — were given an ultimatum: convert to Islam, pay a tax or be put to death, sending Christians fleeing.

Why are people like adeelsiddiqui, Hydhypedplaya and some others so up in arms over Gaza, but completely ignore the mass murder and ethnic cleansing committed by extremists in the name of their own religion in Iraq?

    Why?

    - Do they only care when they can play the "Muslims are victims" card?
    - Are they more motivated by their hate of Jews than by looking at people as humans?
    - Do they tacitly (or, in real life, explicitly) support what ISIS is doing?
    - Do they want to see the establishment of a radical Sunni Islamic Caliphate?

Madness. I'm not religious, but these people are insane and need to be wiped out. Civilization in the area is on the brink of collapse. While I don't want "boots on the ground," it's past time to send in our air power and special forces to direct that air power, and start destroying these madmen. In my humble opinion.

Officials: ISIS blows up Jonah's tomb in Iraq

(CNN) -- If you blink during the video, you might miss the moment Jonah's tomb in Mosul, Iraq, explodes.

The first few frames show the revered shrine towering over its landscape. There's a sudden burst of dust, fire and smoke.

    Then, nothing.

CNN could not immediately confirm the authenticity of the video, which was posted to YouTube.

The holy site is thought to be the burial place of the prophet Jonah, who was swallowed by a whale or fish in both the Islamic and Judeo-Christian traditions.

Militants belonging to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, planted explosives around the tomb and detonated the explosion remotely Thursday, civil defense officials there told CNN.

They are...Go search ISIS on any social media, you will find tons of people from all backgrounds protesting them and speaking out about the atrocities. And since you like to group all Muslims as one, yes every single Muslim I know has spoken out against ISIS.

However, that isn't the point here. The US government is funding Israeli terror; If the US government was funding ISIS and its atrocities, you bet your ass every Muslim in America would be protesting in full force.

Edit: Did the search for you on twitter.... https://twitter.com/search?q=isis&src=typd

This is the reason why ISIS doesn't represent Islam/Muslims. Prophet Jonah (Younus) is a great figure in Islamic history. Mentioned in the Quran and everything. Why would they blow up his tomb? These guys need to go before they spread into neighboring countries.

I think we can pretty much all agree that everyone here, Muslims Christians Jews, are all against ISIS.

A friend posted a video on FB of isis driving around in an SUV and killing random folks. Car fulls. They then get out and walk up to the cars and laugh at the bodies. Also randomly shooting people down on the street. Iraq is too ****ed up. Thanks Bush.

You just had to find a way to bring up your Israel / Jew hatred.

What ISIS is doing is an abhorrent & disgusting. I'm an Aussie, but my mother is an Assyrian from Iraq. The silence from the left & Islamic groups is deafening.

You say that what ISIS is doing isn't a representation of the majority of Muslims, & I'll agree 100% with that statement...but what they are doing is a representation of Islam & the commands given by The Prophet in both the Quran & Hadith.

ISIS & Hamas are terrorist organisations, to claim that Israel is also a terrorist entity is so far of the mark that it would be laughable if it weren't such a tragic, warped & twisted view of reality.

God bless you bro, I'm praying for the people of Israel, Iraq & also the Palestinians...while the Hamas supporters & Islamist continue to call for the destruction of Israel, death to the Jews & support the ethnic cleansing of the Christians from Iraq with their silence.

There is nothing you can do to stop these guys. They are so vicious and willing to die that no one can stop them.

Invading Iraq was unleashing a monster.

Further proof why we never should have invaded Iraq. Thank you GW Bush, one hell of a legacy. At this point the USA is tired of war, it has been over a decade. It would be nice if the West would have just stayed out of the Middle East, stayed out of Palestine. Now it is a full blown mess. The level of backwards fundamentalist Muslims in the Middle East is staggering. There are Muslims speaking out against ISIS and Hamas, but the quickest way to stop this is for Muslims to police Muslims.

Yup. And some on this forum, too.

Doesn't seem like there is a whole lot of that going on.
