But Wiltjer wasn't drafted and we signed him. Maybe Cam Oliver is the guy you want this year, like Wiltjer last year.

Maybe you are actually describing Morey's strategy. i.e. take the young 7 footers to stash with your long shot 2nd round picks in the mid 40s, and sign the undrafted players like Wiltjer for possible roster spots now. It worked last year. Hell, it also worked when we stashed DMo with a 3rd FRP and got an undrafted Bev for our PG needs.

You can say use all your picks on ppl for roster spots now, but you also run out of roster spots and you have to cut someone.

It's not horrifying to pick very young 7footers with range, as long as you are also one of the best organizations in the league at finding undrafted talent...which is clear that Morey is.

We got Lou Williams with our pick, AND dumped Brewer's contract. We pushed our 45th pick for very likely a better one if the future.

I don't understand why people think Morey isn't a solid drafter.

Brooks, Landry, Budinger, Patterson, Morris, Motiejunas, Parsons, Jones, Lamb, Canaan, Capela, Dekker, Harrell.

13 NBA players in his 8 years with the Rockets (excluding the last two years with verdicts still out on Onuaku/Qi/Hartenstein). Sure he's had about 8 duds, but considering over half of his picks have been second rounders, and the others mostly mid-late first, with the exception of 3 late lottery selections (14/14/12), he hasn't had a whole to work with.

There's usually about 5 players from the 2nd round who make the league every draft, and usually about 7-10 players who make the league outside of the top 10 in the 1st round. I think Morey done a pretty good job considering the location of our picks.

Give me one stud (Kawhi, Draymond, Butler, Marc Gasol - all low picks)etc who can be considered a cornerstone than a bunch of mediocre garbage who spend half the time in the D League, play a few games here and there for the Rockets and are eventually dumped to some other team.

How many all stars has Maury drafted? Yeah I thought so....

Has Mauri drafted out of the Top 10 at all in his 9 or 10 years?

i think MEM will still make the playoffs next season, so wouldn't the pick be slightly worse then?

    maybe ... but

MEM might lose Zach (their clear 6th man)
POR will have a full year of Nurkic
    Butler at Minny
AD and Cousins with a duty to make the playoffs
and Denver on the upswing with Jokic

    On the other side,
    LAC probably falls.

Morey can't draft his way out of a paper bag. Perhaps the only impact player out of his tenure as GM will be Capela, and the jury is still out. Why would anyone in their right mind draft a player with back problems especially after you have done it several times before (DMo, Dekker).

I think everyone is still butt hurt about Kawhi. Outside of that, Morey has done a bang up job with essentially worthless picks way out of the lottery.

The majority of these rookies you guys wish we had are going to be out of the league in 3 years. Go look at CF threads from the last 10 years. If you find a 10 year NBA player at the spots we pick, you are doing an AMAZING job. Dork Elvis has found several.

Dekker - Will play in the NBA for 10+ years. Will have a solid career. Let's see If anyone else around his draft position will do that.
Donatas - Literally netted us a solid 1st round pick before all the drama, and gave us 60 games as a starting C where we actually played better than when we had Dwight. it didn't work out, it happens.

Do you know what would be crazy to me? If Morey strayed from his draft board to pick a worse player in the second round because of some injury issues that he encountered previously with a completely different player. it would be like picking heads on a coin toss with your basis being that it was tails on the last toss. You gotta clear your head of past drafts in these situations and get the guy that is highest on your draft board. The only reason this kid slipped was because of this back stuff.

Just because you picked fat ass Eddy Curry doesn't mean you shouldn't pick fat ass Marc Gasol.

He will never join the Rockets. Morey is so good at lying to players.
