You think Bev is better at penetration via the dribble drive than Canaan? Agree to disagree. Ditto for Josh Smith.
Earlier in the season? Maybe he had not shown enough at the time? The team was doing pretty well with Beverley and Terry, so there was no imperative to change that up without a compelling reason. Canaan did fine for a few games when he got into the rotation due to injury to others, but he also had some bad games, too. It isn't like his performance was dominating that of the other PGs. Even the limited amount of available evidence is pretty muddled.
I understand that part of it. I'm just saying from a fan perspective you hate to see someone like Canaan potentially wasting a year or two of their prime physical years being pushed aside to the bench. Not saying that they "owe" him anything besides the money guaranteed in the contract.
Honest question. Did you even watch that clip? Because there's a highlight of Canaan running that play in there. Not to mention he is actually more of a threat due to his ability to pull up off the dribble when the defense goes under the pick.
You're being fairly ignorant. And apparently don't read or watch things you cite. -There was a highlight of him in the very video you used to allude to him not being able to do something. That contradicts your notion that he can't do that. -That play only started to be used ~a month ago according to the op of that thread. Canaan can't really run something during a time he was injured and had very little playing time. -There are a ton of highlights of Canaan running a pick and roll. I'm sure someone can quickly Google them for you if you'd like. It's okay to be wrong. But don't come back with a sassy one liner that makes you look even more foolish.
Fair enough, but this was in his scouting report: As a passer, Canaan gets the majority of his assists off simple drive and kicks from pick and roll sets, although he's not particularly comfortable in these settings and doesn't have the greatest of court vision or awareness. On the season, Canaan is averaging only 4.3 assists per 40 minutes pace adjusted compared to 3.4 turnovers, giving him a -1.43 pure passer rating, one of the worst amongst point guards in our top-100 rankings. Besides vision, he very much has a shoot first mentality, something that may be needed on the Racers squad, but presents a question mark about how he may respond when asked to play a smaller role at the NBA level. I'm not a pro coach, but this stuff is fun to debate. That said, it's possible mchale is simply making an error.
Some info- Canaan "regressed" his senior year of college because his team lost a large amount of talent. His stats his senior year were not as good as his junior year. That said, He has massively improved in the years since then. And he ran a Pick and Roll offense in college.
