You clearly dont. If Canaan was that good they would showcase him for a trade or develop him for the future. Remember KJ? Do you actually watch the sport known as basketball?
Cannan sux and will be cut if they find a deal to absorb contracts in February. He will be cut for sure in June.
I thought this guy could be Jameer Nelson, but he's shooting 37FG% for his career, has zero passing instincts, and horrible defense. Up there with Dorsey as one of Morey's worst picks ever. He won't even be in the league soon.
They were both second round picks, so I'm not sure you can be too hard on Morey. Morey seems to have better than average luck with second round picks, actually.
Canaan's playmaking was suspect when he was with the Rockets, and unfortunately it doesn't sound like it improved in Philly. You'd think he'd be suitable for playing next to an SG like Harden, where he doesn't need to handle the ball as much. However, his mediocre defense doesn't allow him to take on tough backcourt defensive assignments like Beverley can. So basically, he's relegated to being a scoring punch to be used at the SG spot, but only when the opponent's guard is undersized or the team is desparate. Which sounds like Philly's plans for him.
Noticed how Hinkie traded away all capable but not franchise level PGs away? Jrue Holiday and MCW. It's the easiest way to tank in the NBA. Just play bad PGs or inexperienced PGs. You can develop your big man, lose, and just either draft a top PG or trade/sign a PG when you want to stop tanking. Canaan is a pretty decent back-up scoring Combo guard, at best.
Canaan is a cry baby. He's also not a true PG. he's an undersized shooter or wanna be shooter who lacks maturity
