This is ridiculous by all counts. You didn't watch the game but yet are dismissing Canaan's performance entirely. That makes sense. Also, the whole "how did he defend Westbrook" bit is a huge straw man. No one can defend Westbrook. See Westbrook's stats vs Beverley. Westbrook is one of the greatest players in the game and on an absolute tear atm. You can't expect anyone to check him. 4 straight triple doubles. It's pretty spectacular that the Sixers were close to beating them.
Ish Smith played 15 minutes off the bench. Westbrook and Canaan played 42 minutes. Canaan got the 30 pts, no need to bend reality and say he didn't cover Westbrook.
In another news, Black has been DNPCD for the last 5 games and nobody give a sheet about it here. But once the next game he will have a double double, you know a new thread about him will pop up.
Video don't lie folks. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xZW9Ew_EpMM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Ish and Jakarr were the primary defenders defending Westbrook. Canaan was only on him if he was in transition and happened upon him in transition or was rubbed off on a switch. By the way, Westbrook got those points against the Sixers. No way you can say he got those off any one player. Defense is a team thing. However.............Westbrook took a Kobe Bryantish boatload of shots and used a boatload of possessions (43) to get that 49. Still relatively efficient. But not nearly as efficient as Canaan's 10 for 16. One more note: Westbrook was -12 for the game. Only thing that saved him and the Thunder were a couple plays in overtime. Otherwise they lose to one of the worst teams ever assembled while Westbrook hogs down a triple double. Canaan was +5 for the game. A couple bounces of the ball and he's +10 and Westbrook is even worse at -17. And a final note: This was never about Canaan being an ace defender. It's funny how when you say something on here like "Canaan is an electric OFFENSIVE PLAYER" that the first thing that happens is posters try to disprove that point. And then when that fails they try to discredit that point by pointing out his weaknesses and saying it don't make a difference. That wasn't the point to begin with. The point was Canaan has value in this league and he can (and did) contribute to a winning team. He almost single-handedly drove Philly to a victory the other night and played a very efficient winning brand of basketball. One hit wonder? Just one game. Yes, it's just one game. But you should be able to see the talent he has. If he stays healthy there'll be more games, more 30 point 6 assist games, and yes, you should be able to see he has the potential to throw up a 40/10 game too.
I have a hard time taking anything from any player playing for a sixers. The roles they play over there will be nothing like the roles they would need to play on a contending team. He does have talent though.
Now isn't that an interesting suggestion. If McHale would get Morey the guys Morey wanted and get rid of the guys Morey wanted rid of...that might work!
So, you admit that Ish Smith wasn't the primary defender throughout the game. But you're right. No need to bash him for poor defense. But that is what keeps guys like this off the floor. Think about, if the coach uses his SG to defend PGs, then that means he's trying to hide him on the court. not good. which brings up your point "Defense is a team thing" is not a good excuse for hiding someone's poor defense.
its funny BBhollic wont put any blame on Cannan for his bad defense saying its the entire teams responsibility, but has no problem blaming Jones for his defense lol (even though he has improved int hat area, but i dont expect hollic to admit it) /fraud
ZNB, I have never once said Canaan is a plus defender. I have consistently pointed out when writing about Canaan that his defense is suspect. There you go again. Making it about me instead of basketball. The fraud is you taking my comments out of context and trying to make them say something they don't say instead of discussing the player, team, or basketall subject at hand.
76ers fan take: "He has a lot of trouble getting past his man off the dribble, and when he does cannot finish inside. He cannot run the pick and roll, also because of hi lack of quickness and size. His deep threes are impressive but he has to shoot from that range because he cannot create a regular three point shot, again because of his size and lack of quickness. So i don't even think he's back-up material on a good team. I like Ish Smith better. The offense seems to flow a lot better with him on the court. His a ability to get into the paint is really good, it gets Nerlens some looks, it gets the shooters some looks." http://forums.philly.com/discussion...love_him_again/kr-sixers/72901.1?nav=messages
KJ obviously has more to offer than IC. He's an elite defender at his position and has potential to be a lot more. It's an easy win for us. Players like IC are a dime a dozen. Morey drafted AB0 and IC. I'm sure he can find another scoring PG in any draft.
exactly, 5'11 3pt shooting specialists are all over the NCAA ranks and Europe. Not that hard to fine. He's not a PG by any stretch of the imagination.
