Too early to tell before the return of McGrady and Yao. You will be disappointed if you expected he could create his own shot.

I would rather he do as well as Shandon Anderson did for us as opposed to as bad as Derek Anderson did. Thats what originally came to mind when I read the OP. Talk about disappointment.

What a great discussion. Scary to think about. I can't imagine that he'd be another Shannon Anderson because the team around him is so much smarter than the team then and we have a better coach. Don't mean to knock Rudy T. Love me some Rudy T, but Morey and Adelman are doing something totally different it seems to me and Ariza's role will be different.

I think the Posey comparison is a good one and I wouldn't be disappointed if Ariza was Poseyesque in his role.

I hope however that Morey and Adelman see something in Ariza that we don't and that one of these days Ariza goes off for 30+ on consecutive nights. I'm not going to hold my breath but it would be...what am I saying? 30+?

If Ariza is the new Shandon Anderson than Brooks is the new Stevie Francis. And Chase Budinger is the new Cuttino Mobley. Which makes Pops the new Kelvin Cato.

I believe he was signed to make Battier expendable in a big trade. But what happens if Battier goes into the season and shoots 50% from the 3 point line for the first 3 months and Ariza is trudging along at a very pedestrian 30% from the 3 point line?

I would trade Ariza along with Landry for a substantial upgrade in the 4/5. I would be willing to include both of them to PHX for Amare as long as Amare looks to be healthy this season. Or Bosh too for that matter. Give Toronto Landry, Ariza, the expirings of Barry and Cook, Dorsey, Jermaine Taylor, and a future #1 for Bosh.

We need a new poll that asks which player you would trade Ariza or Shane and we need a poll that asks which player would have the highest value to a team like Toronto or Phoenix. I am thinking that Ariza would probably have the highest trade value to those guys because of his age, but they might want Shane because of his shorter contract. But I don't know. Ariza has looked terrific for spurts.............3 second spurts when he runs the floor and finishes or spots up and knocks down the three. But is for very short spurts, like one or two 3 second spurts per game. The rest of the time he has looked like.......another role player that is best suited as a 4th and at best a 3rd option.

Ask yourself. Even if Trev shot at his pedestrian 30 % clip, he won't be traded his first two years IMO. Why did you sign a guy for 5 years and then trade him immediately. Where's the logic? Think long term. Reality bites real hard right?
I don't think a big trade will take place until McGrady comes back.

His aggression level reminds me of Robert Horry. Sometimes a player that tries not to do too much has a better effect on winning than the opposite. Of course this works best when there are superstars to take the load.

battier is probably the least expendable player on our team next to scola. i think everyone realizes now just how much his defense and intangibles mean to us. ariza is a good help defender but nowhere near the man defender battier is.

SEVEN players for Bosh? Remember the other team needs to have roster space to fit all that dump off. And I doubt the Raptors would have 4 or more players they'd be willing to toss in.

Ariza's 3 point % in preseason is actually 42%. Its his 2 pointers he's struggling on. I dont think he's lost the ability to hit 2's all of a sudden, just that he's taking them in different ways, in a scorer's mentality role off the dribble which he doesnt possess. He can revert back to being a spot-up/slasher.

I wouldnt keep Battier just cuz he all of a has better 3 pt%. Out of Battier and Ariza if you need any kind of score I'd still rather put the ball in Ariza's hands. Just Ariza even showing initiative to want to create is advantageous over Battier's sedentary offense.

Is this really true? I know Ariza gets more steals, but from what I can recall, Anderson was more of an on-the-ball defensive specialist than Ariza. People around here LOVE to hate on guys like Larry Hughes and Marcus Camby, but Ariza resembles those guys a lot more than he resembles Shandon Anderson, Battier, etc.

Ariza has the future potential to be our next Shane Battier if we are forced to make a trade or after his contract is done, we don't re-up him. We have seen first hand Ariza's defense shut some of our scorers down, given time to develop all phases of his game and he will be incredible. Not to mention looking into the future, you could have seasoned Ariza and Budinger holding down the 2-3, Ariza's defense alone makes him a great pick up because despite scoring being Adelman's most well known trait, he even knows that "Rockets ball" is all about defense.

Neither; it is, and forever shall be, "Shandn Andersn." No "O" whatsoever.

"Trevr Ariza" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Not sure why people are drinking the Bosh Koolaid. He's solid but not the player everyone thinks he is.

I think its quite the opposite. He is a great player and does not get the appropriate recognition for it. Put him on a good team and he could be the final piece to a championship contender.

If it weren't for 2010 Ariza would've been out of the Rockets price range this summer. They got a bargain.

I think Morey would argue that Shandon Anderson was a more productive player than people think. Of course, how effective a player is often dependent on which team a player is on and his role. I think our GM has implied on many occasions that what Ariza did last year was worth the money we paid him.

Your comparison might be right but I'm not sure it should be such an insult.

Good God I hope not! Not only did Shandn Andersn have THE worst ballhandling in the league, he was severely overrated as a defender. I posted many a thread back then debunking the Andersn defender myth. He was routinely torched by guards both faster and/or stronger than he was.

No. Give Ariza more credit than that... Ariza is from LA Lakers, not the Jazz.
