Seems to me that Trevor Ariza is the same mistake the ROCKETS made back in 1999 with he likes of Shandon Anderson.

Both TREVOR and SHANDON were possiby products of their respective team's system? or having 2 great players around them made them better?..

SHANDON had MAILMAN and STOCKTON and TREVOR had KOBE and PAU

I kinda see where you're coming from but Trevor is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Shandon Anderson. I think if we made Trevor available via trade teams would still be interested. Shandon was pretty much exposed the minute he got here. (He was turrible!)

Shandon had crappy numbers with the Jazz. What made you think he was going to be a good player with us?

Why was Shandon Anderson such a mistake? He was on a cheap short-term contract. And did a solid job considering his role.

The mistake was the Knicks giving him the huge contract for us to take on old Glen Rice.

Anderson had nights when he was a cold-blooded shooter. Ariza has not.

It's just one of those things. There are players fans of this board will just simply do not like. He was absolutely worth every bit of his contract while he was here. Now, one could argue that the Rockets may have had a Joe Smith-type deal that guarantees him a fat raise afterwards. But to take his contract at face value while he was here, Anderson was worth it.

As for Ariza, there's no doubt he has failed to take his game to another level. But even if he does not improve a single bit from this point on, Ariza's still worth the MLE. He's still the most disruptive defensive player we've had in a long time.

Shandon was CD's failed attempt at signing a budding "star", I think. He was supposed to be a top scoring option, and ended up being nothing more than the Jazzhole that he is and always will be.

Anderson never scored 15ppg over the course of a season!

Anderson never managed over 3 assists

Anderson only managed over 1 steal per game once in his career (Ariza only under once).

So it's just the same except totally different.

Oh - and Ariza was white hot in the entire playoffs while his team won something.

Anyone who seriously thinks Ariza isn't worth the MLE is kidding themselves. Even if he only shoots 39%... there's more to the game than bricklaying that's for darn sure!

Anderson use to always throw those highlight reel alleys to Stevie Franchise. Was a decent player but not for the money he was making.

Trevor Ariza will be such a great signing if/when we get a frontcourt, which means either getting Yao back, trading for a solid big (Bosh), or both.

Shandon Andersen also played better when surrounded by better players, generally speaking. This isn't Rocket science folks.

Don't expect MLE players to be more than what they are, which is MLE players.

The comparison is and old one. Still for fun looking back...

I thought Shandon Anderson was exactly what he was when the Rockets got him. He represented 1 of the first players I gave an objective evaluation on. I wasnt near as upset as others that he didnt raise his or the team's level. There was a lot of false optimism going on. He came in right after the Pippen trade, right with the Steve Francis trade. After Kelvin Cato's big "splash". Rockets thought extra money into a player meant getting extra skill out of him or something. He represented the Rockets own flawed approach.

Ariza has another year in a true 4th/5th option role to show what he can lend to a team. He's younger than Shandon Anderson was when coming to the Rockets, thats on his side.
