Our bench generally positionless and just has a group with good chemistry and balls together in a free-flowing offense. Having a player who is a versatile like Dekker is a good fit for that role.
the point about point guards acknowledged, but i trust that Mr Morey is not finished building his team for 2015/16. Will reserve judgement until we see what else might happen between now and opening of season. B

Harrell has great strength, crazy motor, good athleticism, and is widely held as a good to great defender. Not to mention a 7'4" wingspan that makes up for some of the size issues. He'll be a very solid rotation big. Especially with one of our PFs as a free agent this year and two next year. It just makes sense. Not to mention he was clearly the best player available according to pretty much every scout/media outlet. On top of all that, calling a 6'8", 240 lb, 7'4" wingspan PF 'tiny' in today's NBA is hilarious.
I wouldn't say easily. He is one of the best slashers to the basket. But we still have Ariza and that makes him a bit of a luxury at 7-8 mil. Dekker represents backup 3 minutes that brewer gets. But not the sg minutes behind Harden. Also Dekker allows us to go small at the 4. I do believe Morey is after Love and Aldridge. Think there is a better chance to sign Aldridge and also believe Morey has a pg plan.
picking up dekker may not have anything to do with brewer. it's just the bpa philosophy of morey. even if op's assumption was somehow correct that brewer is gone, it doesnt mean dekker is better than brewer at this point. brewer is a proven nba baller. dekker isnt a lottery pick and has to prove himself in the league.
It's not that hard to understand, it's called taking the best player available. It's proven to be the most productive draft strategy in every sport. Those PGs don't have much upside and they certainly weren't going to come in and play big minutes next season. If those PGs end up sticking long term in the NBA it will likely be as backup players. Reaching to take an inferior player at a position of need generally is a bad idea. Did you ever consider that Morey might already know that he's going to sign Llull so he's not desparate for a PG? If Morey were to be able to pull off a SnT for Aldridge or Love then Ariza would have to be included. What if Brewer gets an offer for stupid money? Under either of those scenarios we'd be short at the SF position but now we have Dekker as insurance. That "tiny" PF that you mentioned is also longer than Anthony Davis, Tristian Thompson, Kenneth Farried, Ed Davis, Jordan Hill, Terrance Jones, Cody Zeller, Jered Sullinger, Julius Randel, Blake Griffin, Festus Ezili, Greg Monroe, Draymond Green, Kelly Olynyk, Myers Leonard and Tyler Zeller. In fact his standing reach is only half an inch less than Andre Drummond. Judging size by height is pointless, it's length (i.e. standing reach) that matters.
I read that Harrell weighed in at 253 lbs, which if accurate, is only a few pounds lighter than Howard. It looks like if he could gain a few more lbs of muscle, he could be the ultimate enforcer.
Oh yep you're right. 253 lbs and 9'1" standing reach so not bad at all. I think Draymond is a bad comparison, but his reach was 8'9" just for reference. Kenneth Faried's was 9'0".
Jerian Grant was probably the closest to NBA ready, so it wouldn't have be far fetched to have seen him crack the lineup in a year or two. Likewise, aren't we going to have to wait for Sam Dekker to develop his shot? His stroke is awful and he converted a low amount of threes. He isn't a very dominant post defender either, so that's subject to development as well. Some of you Dekker homers are just as delusion as Lin fans.
