Right, because Martins offensive efficiency is the problem....

Whether it works or not, I don't think watching him flop on offense is entertaining.

I think its more annoying when he does a pump-fake and then attempts to drive, but gets called for the travel. This happens at least 2-3 times/game!!

Yeah, but that is a travel..he gets away with traveling a LOT...he comes off of screens and takes 2 or 3 steps before he jumps for a shot....and rarely gets called for it.

yeah i know its travel and you can see it coming (not blaming the refs for blowing the whistle). it gets frustrating that he keeps doing the same crap all the time.

How does K-Mart's 20 ppg and multiple fouls drawn not help the team win? I see no contradiction. His defense is another story.

random tidbit, albeit slightly off topic, i couldnt find a general kmart thread to post in, nor did i want to start a new thread. ESPN's David Thorpe chatting about Kevin Martin:

Joe (NY): Who is the hardest worker you ever coached?

David Thorpe: Lots of guys practice like their lives are on the line. But no one has ever been more willing to get back at 4am from a back to back road trip and still come to the gym at 8am than Kevin Martin. He's as committed to his craft as any player I've known.

kinda nice to know he works that hard, itd be great if he devoted that type of mental effort/priority towards defense too.

I think even without drawing fouls, Martin can shoot well enough to still become an efficient scorer. Just play the way Rip Hamilton did. Running off screens to shoot. I doesn't hurt to try to draw fouls, but when it gets too close to flopping then it may not be worth it for the long run.

Lets see.Yesterday, 36 pts, 14 from the free throw line. Most of those fouls happened while driving to the basket. So, not overdone.

Dude, we're not winning... so it's not helping... if he can just simply shoot the ball and stick with the team offensive strategy... he'll prbably score 30ppg and he'll be healthy. He scored 40+ one night but we still lost becuase he couldn't get a call in the 4th. So don't over-do it Kevin!

It's smart basketball. you should always try to get the foul call as well as trying to make the shot. For anyone who is undersized (in Martin's case, weight wise) it is necessary. Reggie Miller kicked his leg out to get foul calls at the 3 point line as well as creating space.

As long as the refs are calling the fouls, I don't care if he keeps flopping. IF we make it to the playoffs, we can worry about what the refs are calling at that time. but AB has been looking solid as well as Lowry and we can count on them to step it up. So we don't need Martin to get as many calls.

So lets blame one of our strengths for the mediocre record? I believe that's more due to our lack of a defensive presence at the 5.. But sure go ahead and point that finger at our leading scorers offensive game.

well if he continues to score using his antiques in the 4thQ, then it's not a problem even if we struggle defensively. we win by making more points. the subject matter here is not about defense, but how to get a reliable and consistent offense. And I don't think we can rely on that foul baiting antiques of Martin to bring us to the playoffs. How long has he been in the leauge? he's only got one playoff experience if i'm not mistaken. Anybody can score in Ricks's system so don't point me that leading scorer. we were doing good before he joined.

You can say the same thing about maybe half the league. Especially those on the perimeter. If you want a solid two way player that can score as well as Martin or scola, the rockets will have to pay big time. A solid defensive presence in the frontcourt would make up for a weaker defensive back court, just like it does on many other teams.

And on the subject of the way martin plays, I couldnt care less. I would rather him take a 90% shot and get people in foul trouble, which will only help others on the court, than a 45-50% jumper. Alot of his fouls are from hand checks/blocking after he has beat his man. The only ones that piss me off are when he tries to lean into someone that is sagging off of him. He's a good enough shooter to just take the shot sometimes.

As long as he's aggressive and attacking he will still get calls in the playoffs if the rockets can somehow sneak in.
