Not surprisingly, the voice of reason here.

Given that I follow the Hawks closely, the whole idea of JJ's contract has been quite the tough pill to swallow. Basically, the Hawks ended up giving JJ $30M more throughout the duration of his contract than anybody else could have. That, right there, is inexcusable to me.

You could have given him a decent contract extension without dropping into 'Allan Houston territory' which is what the Hawks ended up doing.

Regardless, JJ is and has been a very good player and the backbone of a consistent playoff team. Say whatever you want but that's an achievement in it's own right considering he plays with a bunch of boneheads (and now a completely clueless coach).

As for what the Hawks need to do moving forward: agreed Horford is a keeper and needs to be moved to PF long-term. Josh needs traded for a paint-clogging center or a quality PG. Marvin needs to be moved if anybody is brave enough to take on his nasty contract. And overall, the Hawks need to acquire some depth. This whole "Jamal = our entire bench" thing they've relied on the past couple years isn't the way to go.

I would take Kevin Martin over Joe Johnson every day of the week. Kevin is closer to super star status than Joe is.
