To to-go or not to to-go. .. that is the question.

If your boyfriend is paying for it, yes.

Is it OK to let the girl pay the bill if she insists?

Yeah, but remember it doesn't mean you have to put out at the end of the night if you don't want to.

Or the back seat of my car. I went out with my GF on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago, forgot the leftovers in my car and didn't get back in my car until Monday morning ... that smell. It was like that Seinfeld episode every time I opened the door for a week.

Not a date, but I used to have a boss who always insisted on having business meals at the most expensive restaurants (usually high end steakhouses). There, she would order a nice filet and only eat a third of it. She never took the rest of it home and never asked if anyone else wanted it. It bothered me every time.

I consider a waste of great food only slightly less egregious than the worst of war crimes. Any man or woman who would suggest that taking food home is cheap or lacking in class can and should be condemned (and loudly).

It would bother me if she DID ask if anyone else wanted it and someone subsequently took it.

How would it have gone over with that group had you asked the server for a to-go box for it when she didn't? Then confirm that she's not taking it while pointing at her plate with your fork, holding your open box.

There is a huge difference in smell of take-out on the ride home, before vs. after eating.

Like a fart in the hot tub - this boss very clearly shared the same mores as the Twin Peaks waitress. Wouldn't be the first time in history more than one person was wrong about the same thing.

And re: bobrek's post, all my friends, family and current coworkers and I almost always offer our uneaten portions to our dining companions if we're not going to finish it or take it home ourselves.

Completely fine in every situation, except 1st dates where it may make you look cheap (still not terrible on 1st dates).

People these days care too much about keeping up their "coolness" than doing what they want. Who cares about being "cool"? If you want to take your food home, then take it home. Although, in the end, I don't think taking your food home makes you any less cool. Just be who you are, and don't worry about keeping up your cool cred.

Are chains OK for a date or do I have to pretend I'm a hipster?
