We have Ariza on the team who can guard Blake Griffin on one play and Chris Paul the next is he worth the max? While the hustle and leadership is great I don't necessarily see it as he should automatically be paid the max, lots of guys have great intangibles like Beverly and Corey Brewer they don't necessarily have to be paid the max. It's not just the 12/8, Green is versatile but his efficiency is mediocre this makes him the perfect glue guy but at the end of the day he's still a glue guy so why he is getting paid the max? If Klay Thompson or Curry gets injured you think Green will be able to pick up the slack for the squad? No, it would be Iggy, Bogut or Barnes who'd do that. The reality is while Green has been good for them I think a lot of his impact is boosted by having horrible subs, GSW has so many good guards and wings but at PF they have David Lee and Ezeli. When a net positive who hustles and plays his heart out like Green sits down and then David Lee who avoids contact and is known as one of the worst defenders in the L or Ezeli who has like zero offense outside of dunks go in you really appreciate Green even more.

It was really ugly watching him on offense in the finals. Curry fed him completely open shots so many times when Curry got trapped, and he kept passing them up to do something stupid with it 80% of the time. I was baffled watching it happen over and over again. He's not worth the max, but you just won a championship so I'd be hesitant to screw up the chemistry.
You can offer him less than the max and then just match if somebody else offers him the max. Way better IMHO than straight up offering him the max, if they give him a 10-12M deal for 5 years I doubt anybody gives him more than that. Everyone keeps focusing on how he fits on the GSW team but nobody ever talks about which OTHER NBA team would offer 15M a year for him.
Howard was hurt all season. Tyson Chandler has noone else around him that plays defense, Demarcus Cousings... this was a tank year for them... he didn't try. Contract year for Green... damn right he gonna try harder... fluke numbers for a fluke player. He was on that GSW gravy train and made a lot of noise with that big mouth of his. He was able to get away with a lot of flopping and grabbing, and going over people's backs. The guy is like 6'8". SO no max.
A lot of y'all are ignoring Lowe's column. A "max" this summer is NOT a "max" next summer. For this year's pre-salary-cap-jump max, Green's pay will look more reasonable in only one year. The Warriors are going to pay him now.
All I can say is, if Parsons got max, so should Green. Green put up 14 points, 10 boards, 5 assist, 2 steals and a block (42%FG), over the Warriors 21 game championship run. Green played 37 mpg, he's a big reason why they won. There's no reason why he shouldn't get max, being a 2 way player, playing such a integral role on a champion team, being only 25, and with the new TV deal kicking in soon, his max won't look like such a big deal.
Yes, definitely agree. I'd be fine if I'm the Warriors signing him to a max 4 year deal. It's not like they have the cap room, or the options to go out and find a better replacement right now anyway. The Cuban route of blowing it up to try with a different squad is moronic. of course, with the way the Warriors luck has turned, they'll probably convince him to take a deal starting at $10 million a year...

I mean...technically he's right. Draymond, in no way, is "worth" the max like Davis/Lebron/Harden/etc. are, but he's an idiot if he thinks it's some unfathomable line of thinking that Draymond will get a max deal. He's obviously getting the max, and there are tons of teams who will gladly pay him that.
I get what you're saying, trust me -- I was echoing similar sentiments earlier in the season before I started watching GSW consistently. Bottom line: Green and Kerr are the main differences between a 51 and 67-win team. Replacing a softy "numbers guy" like Lee with a do-it-all hustling workhorse that NEVER takes a single possession off like Green has made an undeniable difference on this team. His advanced numbers back this up. #2 in defensive win shares (bracketed by all max players), #4 in defensive rating, #5 in defensive +/- and top 10 in VORP. Yes, top 10 overall in value over replacement player. He deserves to get paid. How good he would be on a different team is a different discussion, but I think it's a very fair observation to say that this GSW wouldn't be the same without him. That they would potentially lose their swagger without him.
Well I guess that makes the Warriors GM an idiot then. Because he'll match a max offer. He's more valuable to that team than Klay Thompson who has a skillset that can actually be replaced relatively easily.
BUMP. What are the guys that laughed at us posters saying he deserves the max over a lot of "superstars" like Melo and others saying now? "He doesn't score 20+ ppg, he doesn't deserve the max, only an idiot would give him the max mimimi" Too funny in retrospect, it now should be ovious to everyone that Green puts your good team completely over the top and is one of the most important players in the league by far.
Draymond Green deserves every penny of his contract, as much as Kawhi Leonard does as a Spur. LOL to any vanilla NBA fan who only acknowledge players greatness from their raw, offensive number, like a particular self proclaimed real MVP, who only produce empty numbers in losses.
8 reb 7 assists in 33min shooting 48/43% out of the PF spot, defending 1-5 and arguable at least all-NBA defensive player if not DOPY.
^ not arguable at all. Dude is easily one of the best defenders today. Also, I just want to give a shout out to Festus Ezeli. I have a strong feeling we'll be discussing his contract situation as well.
He's the ultimate sidekick player. Like Scottie Pippen, he will flourish when put next to a superstar. He would be fantastic playing with Harden. He will never be the 'main' guy though.
That's way too much money for a role player. He can't play Barbosa's, Livingston's, or Iguodala's positions. I bet he gets traded for Bogut's replacement.
