    Has he already surpassed Biggio?

I was having a debate with some buddies at work and it was split 50/50.

He's on track to be the most prolific Astros hitter ever.... so yes.

Not with his base running...........He is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE at base running.

    Biggio is still better.

    Short memories.

Will he surpass Biggio? He absolutely should, yeah. He’s on a ridiculous pace, but hope it continues for much longer.

Come on now........there is a HOFer with 3000 hits in the organization. Altuve is not there yet.

    Not yet, longevity does matter.

However, assuming he stays moderately healthy, he almost certainly will be in a few years.

Biggio was extremely good from 94-99, and he has some other quality years before and after.

Altuve has an MVP, a World Series title, and three batting titles. It's not even close.

Yeah, literally the ONLY argument for Biggio is longevity and if you aren’t biased and you look into his career after the Astrodome he wasn’t that special...especially after his 2001 season. He was durable and stayed healthy long enough to rack up 3000 hits. Quite frankly he was awful in his last two years where we played him solely because he was on a quest for 3000 hits but our franchise had never won anything and didn’t have a HOF inductee at the time so of course it was the right move and I loved it as much as anyone could...hell I went to NY and attended his HOF induction/speech.

All that being said, I’d take the career Altuve has had for us 100 out of 100 times over Biggio and I don’t care if Altuve ever gets another AB. Like you said he has a MVP and he didn’t shrivel up in the playoff like Biggio did. In 40 playoff games Biggio had a .234/.295/.393 slash line with less total HRs than Altuve had in ONE GAME during our 2017 run.

For all of you saying Biggio it would be humorous to see people’s reactions on this board if he was putting up that slash line in the playoffs. And a lot of it is because we finally got a taste of what it’s like to win and for once it feels like we could win a couple more...something that Biggio/Bagwell never came close to doing unfortunately.

Why does it matter in the grand scheme of things? Does it matter for HOF voting and personal awards? Of course. And if that’s what you’re referring to then yes I agree with you.

But for the sake of this topic I’d take Altuve over Biggio any day and IMO he might be the greatest Astro of all time...we won a championship with Tuve and the man was the ONLY player worth a crap for several years on our team while we tanked. The man hit SEVEN home runs during our 2017 run, one short of the playoff record I believe. That’s three more than what both Biggio and Bagwell combined for during their careers in the post season...and they played in over 70 total games.

And a sweet .680 OPS over 40+ playoff games that never got us anywhere...

Because regular season baseball does matter, this isn't the NBA. The Astros don't makes the playoffs from 97-01 if not for Biggio. Biggio was every bit the player Altuve has been in his prime.

He sucked in the postseason over that stretch, can't argue that. But one amazing postseason doesnt overcome substantially more regular season contributions.

Again, it's a pointless debate because I fully expect Altuve the stay good for a least a few more years. At which point he will claim the title.
