Didn't watch, but the moment artists could not be controlled and heavily exploited anymore due to internet, social media, YouTube and death of physical media was the moment it was over. Now anyone can put music out there and have a chance to blow up.

There's a problem with that, as you might expect: artists need to get paid, and spotify and/or whoever may not be paying what they're worth.

And people wonder why seeing a live music act is so expensive? Tickets (plus bs fees) and merchandise is the only way they make money.

I agree, blowing up doesn't guarantee financial success anymore. Part of the reason to get into other industries if you were a music mafioso.

When's the last time you had actual change in your pocket and gave it to someone on the street?

Rick Beato has been in the industry for decades and has a great channel. He’s not just some old guy.

was literally just recommending a friend check out his channel during lunch not 20 minutes ago

I'm not opposed to change... in a way....
    I mean...
I'm willing to give new music a try and willing to listen to new rock bands....
But I don't like that there aren't any new rock bands.
I don't like how the greed destroyed so much of the industry.
I don't like the completely diminished level of musical talent in the industry.
And I don't like the synthetic artificiality of the industry.

I usually click on videos people here share, see they're long as hell, and stop. This one flew by though. Good stuff.

I've been subscribed to him for quite a while. The guy has outstanding interviews of music legends on his channel. It's really worth checking them out.

"Music Industry" as a commercial cash cow and systematically analyzed commercial product basically started in the 1970's. Before then, it was basically guys promoting whatever they they thought would sell, or whatever they liked - basically mom and pop fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants stuff. So "the music business" as it is commonly understood and perceived, was a mayfly - born and dead before anybody could notice. It's the very brief exception in the history of music, not the normal state of things.

Honestly, musicians and actors becoming widely known and famous at all is very much a modern thing - not much older than the first recording devices at the end of the 19th Century.

The whole system is very modern and has always been very much in flux.
