Why do some people sign every post with DD, SIL, their full nickname, or ..... ..... ..... .....? Inquiring minds want to know! What is the psychology here? Napalm
Initialing posts is a relic from the internet forum 4chan. Since there is no registration users, would sign off initials so others would know who they are. I'm fairly certain DD posts on 4chan as well. B
here's an actual serious response, in similar logic to Mr. Brightside's I always thought the one reason that made sense was to add space to your post, or a margin. Back in the original BBS, there was no large amount of space for the User info to the left of a post (much less than an avatar). It was just the name and join date. Plus, there was hardly any added post info. I think the Perl bbs didn't even have sigs. So, if you wrote a single sentence reply, it's cramped against other replies. Adding a sign-off added separation, your post was much more noticeable (and by you), and arguably made it easier to read. anyhoo, that was just my theory as one practical reason, as it really was a reason in other internet circles at the time. This was habit for many chatroom ppl and newsgroup ppl in early internet, which DD was
I also think it is a relic back from the early days of the bbs. For example, my signature with the colorful stars was originally put in place so that I could easily identify my own posts when skimming through a thread.
