this poll is dumb...if Harden wins MVP he won’t beat GS and win a title, and if he doesn’t win MVP, he’ll channel his inner Olajuwon which he has failed to do twice already and beat GS/win a chip

how people fail to realize that Harden could win MVP AND a title is beyond me

MVP award in every sport is a popularity contest driven by narrative (damn I hate that word). Worrying about MVP is like worrying about who's taking Peggy Sue to the prom. Basic as ****.

On an individual level, it matters for James Harden and as a Rockets fan and what Harden has given for his team, I think voicing a fair opinion is the right thing to do. Whether it is on social media or forums, message somehow spreads. People remember MVP's and records. When was the last time we heard so much of Wilt Chamberlain in a single season? Harden is the clear MVP here and he deserves it.

Some folks take their role in all this WAY too seriously. Seeing as how we "as fans" have no control over any of these things...
    • Harden's play
    • Giannis's play
    • the media narrative
    • what MVP voters think or how they vote
...we "as fans" don't have to forget the MVP award and move on to (or focus on) anything else. What will happen is completely out of our hands, and more importantly, what we think and discuss here doesn't affect Harden or the other players or coaches AT ALL.

To hammer home the point: We have no effect on any of this.

With that in mind, no need to change anything, ClutchFans. Just carry on as before and have fun with it.

If they do give it to Giannis and we face them in the Finals, you can bet the farm on Harden getting a championship and Finals MVP. Book it.

This is some **** you can say once the recipient for MVP award has been decided.

If you said this and you were his teammate before the results haven't even come out, you would be a shitty one.

Watch the media flip their narrative once they crown Gianni's MVP and James emerges as the NBA Finals champ. They'll say "We told you James deserved the MVP!" Lol.

Rockets look like they're going to win at least 53, and maybe 54 depending what the stakes are like for both teams when they play OKC. Meanwhile the Bucks are at 58 with 4 games left and could easily go 2-2 losing to Philly and OKC (again, depending on what the stakes are like, who's resting, etc.).

If the season ends with the Bucks at 60-22 and the Rockets at 54-28, I think team record is as good as a wash when you take conference and injuries into account. Funnily enough, I think if the Bucks finish with 58 or 59 wins it's going to be a pretty huge detriment for Giannis simply because it strips away the whole "60 win team" talking point. Similar to how some people said they wouldn't have given MVP to Westbrook if he had averaged 9.9 rebounds or assists despite the real world difference in production being essentially invisible. People love their round numbers.

Except the award is only given out AFTER the season now so it's more like your NOT THINKING AT ALL.

It's sad the MVP comes down to a popularity contest. What the media is saying is "we gave Harden the trophy last year, and it's Giannis's turn this year". They don't wanna give Harden back to back MVP's basically. Tbt, they didn't wanna give it to him last year too. But since when is it about someone "giving" the MVP award to a player? Harden has EARNED that accomplishment over anybody

i would want harden win MVP for one to boost his confidence going into the playoffs, two the refs gonna pay more attention to him and he'll prob get more calls, three he worked so hard for it all season not to have it.
