If you think the Rockets are making moves for PR reasons

it is probably time to change your mind.

They had to know that losing Dragic over money will not be popular, especially at the amount he got from Phoenix. The same applies to letting Courtney Lee go. Making Omer Asik your top free agent priority also has little PR value given that most fans don't know who he is.

On draft night, selecting a center would have been more popular among fans than Terrence Jones.

Even with the Jeremy Lin move, it looks like they didn't go "all out" in terms of contract dollars. Lin didn't accept the offer today, and is "mulling it over" and Jonathan Feigen is not optimistic about him even accepting (leaving alone the Knicks being able to match). If they cared so much about PR, they would have probably offered enough for them to get an "Yes" on the spot.

We may or may not agree with the team's decision (and though letting Dragic go at $7.5M is a mistake), but it is pretty clear that these decisions are not made with PR in mind.

I dont think they are "made" at all. I think they have been forced. I guess we can call it moves for the inability to execute plan after plan after plan falling through.

So, what's the consensus on what they're trying to do? Seems like they're now focused on next summer and didn't want to pay top dollar for the B players, except for Asik, but he still serves as trade bait in a sign and trade, since we had no other true center to offer in trades.

    Josh Smith
    Chris Paul
    Andrew Bynum
    Monta Ellis
    Dwight Howard
    Al Jefferson
    Paul Millsap

All unrestricted...Okafor could also be added.

I think it's clear that they need to target a starting PG so they can move Lowry, but at the same time have certain targets (non-PGs) in mind that require there to be a constraint on the PG's value.

Maybe an expert capologist can break down what high-profile players suddenly become a lot more difficult to acquire if we are paying for a PG above the 8M threshold.

None of them. Stay the course. Get nobody. Rid the team of Martin or Scola and finish the youth movement. Get some money for next year and high draft picks. Grab Asik to be the center of that future young squad who will go deep into the playoffs maybe two to 3 years from now.

Might as well make unpopular moves now when attendance is the lowest it's been since 2003.

So it's the FO direction that Houston deserves, not the one that Houston wants?

Agree with this... they REALLY need to move Martin and Scola. If they can manage to salvage a good relationship with Lowry, I'd like to see a Lowry/Lamb/Parsons/White/Asik with Machado/Jones/Patterson/Montie coming off the bench. Would be fun to watch and let the young doods develop.

So the great city of houston deserves to have the least talented team in the NBA?
