It's been said that it is very difficult to acquire both Howard and Paul. So lets assume we were in a position to only get one of them. Who would you choose and why?
There was a thread like this started last week? It even had a poll and everything ps - I think D12 won
Added, For the purposes of the thread I'll answer Dwight Howard based on these assumptions: - Our defense needs some major improvement esp. with Asik out, so that would go a long way. - Our starting gaurd and our star player already demand the ball quite abit, as well as love running the pick & roll in which Howard excels at. - Dwight's offensive capabilities still has a long way to go, and with great big men coaches in Houston he can be there (I think Carroll Dawson still coaches great big men, and did a great job with Yao as well).
Name a superstar point-guard in the recent era besides Tony Parker that has won a chip. Paul has a horrendous track record in the playoffs and he won't help us beat miami. Dwight on the other hand carried a team to the finals and his size is key against the heat.
I pick Howard. He and Asik would form a dynamic defensive force, and with help from McHale and Olajuwon, both will pick up their offensive games. I still have faith in Lin; he will improve his shooting and ball-handling. He and Parsons will be the tertiary guys to our two stars in Harden and Howard.
Wonder if Josh Smith would take a Morey contract. Could go for a run on the big PFs next season with a CP3 signing and not keep smith on the books to provide cap space. Could be good!
I picked Dwight, but it's tough. I think the jump from Asik to Dwight is less than the jump from Lin to CP3. A backcourt of CP3/Harden/Parsons is VERY enticing. That said, almost every championship team in history had a good low post scorer, and even if Dwight isn't elite on offense, he's still very good (especially when compared to Asik). Also, i like the idea of a) zero defensive dropoff when either comes off the floor, and b) pairing them together to finish a game.
