From what I know he can retire on his own, and lose all the money. You can buy him out and stretch which he also loses money and there's a hit in your cap for max 7 years but smaller than 25.

The risk is simply too much.

You apparently aren't up to speed on whats going on in the NBA. Bosh has a life threatening health condition and maybe forced to retire

Considering the title of this thread, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion, but OK...

Bosh's condition is such that if he is done, he's been done for a while now. If that's the case, he'll retire or the trade won't process.

But he hasn't, so here we are.

You get stuck with Bosh and he can't play for sure you'll lose Harden in 2 years. Great player if healthy but I wouldn't take the risk.

I can't tell if this thread is a joke or not.

Not to bash the OP or anything, but of all the potential risks out there to take, that one is so so so so so so so so so far down the list, it's a bit laughable.

trade for a $25 million albatross of a contract and player that could literally die while playing for your team on the court? No, that doesn't make sense.

If Wade is going to Cleveland, they'll need to dump Frye from Cleveland. How about we snatch him up. He's a fit in this offense.

    Nope.

    ______________

[rQUOTEr]When James cost Wade $10 million by leaving — Wade had opted out of a $42 million deal to create max room for James, only to get stuck with a $32 million deal when James bolted — a frenzy started. Houston swooped in to steal Bosh. According to three sources, the Heat was informed that Bosh was leaving for Houston for $88 million. Miami offered about $7 million more than that. Nope. Had to be the max — $118 million. Nothing less than the max would keep Bosh in Miami. The Heat wanted to pay Bosh and Wade equally — $18 million a year — and protect future flexibility. Nope. Bosh gets the max or he’s gone. And that’s how Thomas got one client his money in Miami while the other one, the older one, now fights for more dollars from a team that has already offered him all of its remaining cap space. Wade doesn’t blame James or Bosh or his agent publicly, but he sure as hell seems to blame the Heat.

From story on Wade's ongoing contract saga[/rQUOTEr]

Man did Bosh play Riley to force that full 5 year deal. Bosh's agent clearly knew Riley was still fuming that LeBron left and used that against Riley. ha ha ha.

Absolutely correct on Base Year Compensation. Regardless of what you resign DMo to only half of his salary can be used in trade and he has right of refusal so you have to also have his permission.

That is beside the point that this thread is pointless because Bosh is physically done. I am 100% sure his doctors told him the first time that the blood clots would return. He needs to be on blood thinners the rest of his life and there is no way he can play like that. If injured it would be incredibly difficult to stop bleeding or heal. A bruise becomes a problem. He is trying one more time to milk another year out of his five year contract but I doubt he ever sees the court again for more than half the season. Maybe never again. He is literally risking his life and each time it becomes more dangerous because the odds stack up. He would be a gigantic liability for the Heat if they let him play. Insurance does not protect you from gross negligence. In the end I think he finds some kind of buyout for the final two years. Truly sad ending for a fine young man.

I think some of the posters are confused as to who pays who. Heat pay Bosh until he quits. Insurance company covers portion of Heat's loss of Bosh. Heat have to play things out with him if he is unwilling to quit. They have to act professionally. There is no under the table. Insurance company is well informed of every step or they do not pay so information has to come from doctors. This has nothing to do with salary cap. As long as Bosh is on the roster his salary goes against the cap. Only at league discretion can they provide a waiver and usually that is a midterm exception for a team over the cap. If he is on the roster this year his full salary goes against the cap. On the last two years if he is medically retired the league will work out his cap status and usually those last two years would not count. If there is a buyout that would affect the cap.
