Okay, so my mother-in-law is going to turn 80, and we want to treat her to a trip to the only US state she has yet to visit: yes, Idaho.

Am thinking we fly her from the east coast to Boise and then drive a couple of hours to one of the lakes near the Sawtooths or some such. We'll only have a long weekend. Just want to show her the natural beauty of the place, right?

Any ideas for spots within 2-3 hours of Boise? Idaho jokes? Mother-in-law jokes?

and yeah, y'all think I'm so old that my mother in law would be like 100, but it ain't so.

The above was SO much better when those guys were playing live.

Another possible idea is to fly to Spokane and it’s a short drive over to Coeur d’alene or sandpoint. Beautiful country, and even a few casinos (never knew an 80 year old lady who didn’t like those).

Well as a proud native of Idaho, I suggest you Fly to Spokane Washington. Coeur D'Alene Idaho is 40 minutes away from the airport. Here you will find a cozy little city with a lot of amenities and fine cuisine and of course the absolutely jaw-dropping views of lake Coeur D'Alene. Just steer clear of Ruby Ridge and you should be fine.

The ghost of Vicki Weaver still haunts Ruby Ridge.

beat me to it. i knew chances were slim, but i was hoping this was a thread about the great, little-known 90's band.

saw them a few times including a show at axiom with red house painters and i believe your band, buddah on the moon. is my memory correct there?

Yes yes! Such a great unknown band, I think they were all kicking @ that show so it uh added to the heaviness. They were so unique they used these 4 string guitars using Alt tunings...

My sister lives in Meridian, Idaho, near Boise, and can attest that the area is gorgeous. Plenty of awesome outdoor stuff to see and do, and Boise is definitely kind of a hipster place. Probably caters more to a younger crowd.

I personally think she would really enjoy Twin Falls, which is really pretty and kind of shocking the first time you go over the bridge heading into town.

We've done Coeur D'Alene from Spokane and enjoyed it. Stayed at the resort, hiked the easy Tubbs Hill trail , rode the Chris Craft down to the super cool golf course with the floating green, day tripped over to Montana for whitewater rafting and rode the easy bike trail down Hiawatha mountain

Just get her a B52 album and let her have her own private Idaho on repeat.

I can tell you this: Idaho has a solid wolf management strategy. It was mentioned in an article I read in NYT that was focusing on Washington's terrible and controversial wolf management strategy.

Excellent. In the summer you can safely travel over the pass into hidden Montana. Thompson Falls is where I spent the first 7 years of my life. My extended family all ended up back in that area recently.

Jesus B-Bob, was your wife 10 years old when you married her? Something isn't adding up.

Very helpful. Last time I was the only guy escorting multiple ladies on a trip, a weird Czech bartender leered at me and said "you are the wolf, yes? Heh heh. The wolf." And he made these clawing motions w his hands.
