Steve Smith is on a different level in the last 12 months. Australia will be in great hands when he takes over. Just a shame Clarke wasn't there at the end.

Why was this a 43 overs match as opposed to the typical 50?

The screen said new zealand needs 5 more runs from 2 more balls when it was currently 42.4 overs. That doesn't make sense. Shouldn't it have been 44 more balls?

As it was getting late and they didn't want to risk having to finish the match the next day, the duckworth/lewis method was used to create the new adjusted target of 298 in 43 overs.

I'm too much of a noob to really explain D/L, but this does a pretty good job.

When the game is delayed because of rain they used a calculation to set fewer innings to be played and a lower runs target to be reached to secure victory.

SA always at the wrong end of the DL haha. They didn't "choke" this time. NZ just played better. However, I do think if it was a 50 over game, SA would have won. AB and Faf were well set to go on and post a massive massive total.

    Well done Aussies!

Thanks. I actually had no idea they did that but it makes sense logically. It's just an adjusted total run/over ratio to have to chase.

I still can't tell if its better to choose to hit first or field.

In almost all situations it's better to field first (aka bat 2nd) when the D/L system comes into play. Main reason being team batting 1st is playing and pacing themselves for the 50 overs while team batting 2nd knows exactly what they have to do in the limited overs they have. Same 10 wickets in hand for less overs.

The 2011 world cup was supposed to be shared by India, SL, and Pakistan. ICC took Pakistan out of the equation cause they realized it's a ****-hole of a country and no one is safe there or wants to go there.
