    Awesome!

Well, Yao had every reason to say no. Dude is constantly bamboozled by fans everywhere he goes.

He didn't really specify. And more people have made comments about the autograph thing.

I can see Yao turning down pic requests from fans these days though. One, there were some nimrods who did this and invaded his privacy at the same time so it's natural he would be jaded with the fans requesting pics. Two, taking pics with women is tricky in this age of instant internet and rumors, and maybe his wife frowns upon him seeing him in pics with women.

man, you guys are soo lucky to meet them~

this is not surprise that Barry is so down to earth, I always feel he is one of the nicest players in league beside Shane.

AB looks sooo tiny in that picture :D

Eh, Yao likes to keep to himself. I saw him at Best Buy 5 years ago; coincidentally I had my Rockets shirt and "Year of the Yao" movie pin on...I told him I was a huge fan, he just kind of half-smiled and glanced at the guy with him with an "oh my God, get me away from this nutcase" look. We looked at each other for about ten awkward seconds and then I just turned around and disappeared in the CD section.

I was 17 and in love. Afterward I realized how annoying it must be to be approached by adoring fans all the time. But still, I continued to like Yao as a Rocket, but the love affair was over. :)

thanks for sharing! that was an awesome read.

guys, put urself in the shoes of an international super-duperstar like yao. wouldn't YOU get tired of people trying to take pictures with you when all you wanna do is hang out with your buddies? there's always two sides to the story. granted, there are probably celes who are more friendly with fans than yao is in this story, but he's inherently a shy and reserved dude.

I'm always afraid how I would introduce myself to someone on the Rockets if I saw them.

It has only happened to me once with former Rocket Rick Barry. I was like "uhhh hey you're Rick Barry? Haha what does Jon think about the family retirement plan in Houston?"

Haha, I can imagine that if I met Yao and he waved me off as a fan, I would probably stop being a huge Yao fan.
