You are correct. For some reason, I thought I read in the article that he had a wife and kids. As someone else has now posted, he was engaged to the mother of his kids. I still don't see anything to indicate that he was particularly irresponsible.
Reading this story, I think it goes beyond just a simple piss on his lawn. This old man is a retired Marine. He served this country, and he has probably taken solace in tending to his lawn with great care. His lawn means a lot to him as seen by his constant care and protectiveness. In addition, since he was in the service, he probably felt disrespected by the young guy when he refused to apologize and antagonized him instead. It probably isn't the first time this confrontation has happened because dogs are territorial and will urinate in the same spot like clockwork. In summary, marine feels disrespected that his pride and solace is defaced by rude neighbor who only antagonizes old man used to order and obedience. Kind of a perfect storm for a violent confrontation.
What the heck happened to the good old days when if someone hacked you off you could just punch em in the face instead of everyone having to resort to their substitute peni...er...I mean firearm. Sure the ex-marine was getting up there, but if you aren't able to take care of business with your fists anymore, then you forfeit your right to be a hardcase. Now he gets to spend what should be his retirement years trying to avoid prison-rape.
Just how nice was this lawn? Anybody have a link to pics? I need all the information to make a judgment on right/wrong.
I never said the old man was justified. Of course he's guilty and deserves to be in prison. I'm just trying to explain his reasoning and understand the situation better.
Apparently, in this thread if you're not willing to accept this simple portrayal of the incident then you are on the side of the old man.
I really dont understand the sympathy for the father. He disrespected and mouthed off to a guy pointing a gun at him. What did he think would happen? Sympathy for the family? Absolutely. Sympathy for the father? None whatsoever.
this is the most disturbing thread i have ever read on this forum. im really surprised at the amount of people attempting to justify the actions of the crazy old murderer or implying that the guy walking his dog got what he deserved.
Amen to that. Makes you wonder that all the people who are justifying the crazy guy shooting the young guy because he was "running his mouth" are members of the NRA.
I don't think anyone is condoning the crazy guy. Rather, I think they realize that both the crazy guy and the father are to blame.
You can call me a SOB or a MFer to my face and not have to worry about me plugging a cap in yo ass. Now my fist? That's another story.
Or they put the clues together in the story and realize there is probably a lot more to this than dog pees on grass, man shoots dog's owner over it. Again, the old man needs to be punished to full extent of the law but I think if we knew the whole story we might understand the situation that lead to the shooting a bit better.
So if I do choose to insult you, I do it knowing that there's a decent chance that you'll try to punch me. Same thing goes for crazy guy & the father. The father chose to insult the gun-wielding crazy guy knowing that there was a decent chance he'd get shot. Sorry, but I have absolutely no sympathy for the father.
