If anything the Rockets have erred on the side of caution on this injury. The reported MRI finding was bone marrow edema, which is a stress reaction. Not a meniscus tear or ligament damage. His cartilage is reportedly in relatively good shape. Now that he's gotten a nice long rest, I think a lot of people will be surprised by how well he responds.

This is my impression as well. My hunch is that Dwight could have "played with the pain" through the rest of the season, but Rockets management evaluated this procedure and decided to make it happen in time for him to get "warmed up" before the playoffs started.

I think this is the opposite of sacrificing his future (which they have millions and millions of stock in).

i have it on good authority that they are actually sacrificing his career - think temple of doom.

i heard harden sacrificed dwight's career to be in the illuminati. harden tried his best to choose mchale for the sacrifice but they caught him in the last minute, so they made harden look like a bad guy in the media as punishment.

If he comes back to early and re-injures his knee, we are not getting out of the first round let alone winning anything.

Are you saying just sit him until the playoffs? Or for the rest of the season to get ready for next year.

Either way, no Dwight, no championship. Obviously Harden is the leader and the one who will put the Rockets on his back, but we need Dwight for Defense + Rebounds. If he just focuses on being a defensive/rebounding for 20-25 min/game, this team could be something else

funny. we wont take a shot at going over the cap to win this year but we'll risk Dwight for the rest of his career. Who cares right? Insurance pays for it

I'm not very optimistic about Dwight's long term health.

Although I don't think it'll get much better so he might as well play.

We're not expecting him to play 100%. Just be a big body out there, wave his arms an scare some guys going down the paint.

OP, if he can't play after two months' of rest of rehab (with no surgery), then he won't have much of a career going forward.

Dwight was ready to go last week...wanted to play in front of Championship Squads...Doctors wanted him back against Timberwolves, but injuries forced their hand.

    Welcome Back big guy!

8 Weeks... got treatment to get marrow in his knee. Which helps heal the knee. We shall see tomorrow what happen.

His best days statwise are behind him. Sacrificing career huh? Not so much.

It is all about winning one or two at the end of his career. Otherwise he has had a wonderful career.

He wasn't as skilled as was Steve Nash and Steve Nash was not really a 2x MVP (just not that great but still great).

Team needs his defense and rebounding....

If doctors cleared him, its all good.
