he's been a scrub. he looks better than he is playing with great players when his shot is on, but his D has always been overrated here. he's always been a bench player playing starter quality minutes. looks like we'll have to start gordon.
Unfortunately PJ looks slow now and I think it is age. We certainly can’t grind him for all those minutes like in the past. When Boogie comes back I’d give Wood more time at the 4 and bring PJ off the bench, which is what makes the most sense at this point in his career.
PJ has definitely lost a step. Once the full crew is in, it will be wise of Silas to limit PJ's minutes to keep him fresh for the playoffs. I, too, would do Wood and Cousins at the 4/5.
A lot of us have been skeptical since 2-3 years ago when many Clutchfans were shatting themselves that Morey played hard ball with him. Now it's looking like he never should have signed him at all.
I think he's struggling with a bigger role that has been forced on him in the 2 games this season. I expect him to turn things around once the full team is out on the court and he can return to a role that is more suited to him. For example, remember when we had Trevor Ariza and he'd foolishly think he was capable of dribbling the ball? Yeah, pretty tragic most of the time. If Ariza was constantly forced into that kind of a role, he'd have always looked terrible. House is no different really despite having slightly better handles than Ariza did. He needs to be just a 3 and D guy and leave the ball handling to people who are actually good at it.
Eddie Winslow has regressed but I will chalk it up to new coaching staff and basically new teammates. Once the team is at full strength then we can make a fair assessment.
I'm hopeful the coaching staff is seeing the same thing on tape we are seeing. House just isn't a player that should see major minutes. Nwaba and Tate look like better players. If House takes more than 2 dribbles, that possession isn't going to end up good.
That's no different than it was for Ariza though, House just needs a role that fits him, he shouldn't be expected to be a creator.
The problem is that he actually tries to be a creator instead of shooting the wide open 3. His role is to the shoot the 3 or layup anything else is a turnover waiting to happen. Also, it was inexcusable to help off of CJ and allow him to get the basketball after scoring 41 points. You don't leave CJ for nothing in the world. House mental lapses as a guy who receives major minutes is inexcusable as well...
I think when players are forced into different roles it can cause those kinds of lapses due to them just being uncomfortable and unsure of exactly what they are supposed to do. Due to all the guys who were out, House had to be a creator since everyone else out there was worse, if he's still trying to do that when the full squad is available, then we have problems.
Broderic Thomas was more effective offensively in 8 minutes than House was in 29 minutes. House is not some defensive wiz where you can stomach his pathetic offensive abilities like PJ. This dude needs to be at minimum benched and hopefully finds himself traded at some point. I'd take Gerald Green over House right now.
I think House is going to be ok. Yes he’s looked terrible, both in the preseason and first 2 games, but that likely has a lot to do with him being in the wrong role. With all the roster turmoil, we’ve yet to play a single game at full strength. This has often made House the secondary playmaker, which is not his role. He is best served as a pure glue guy...someone that plays off everyone else. When Gordon, Wall and Cousins get back, House will consistently be our 4th or 5th option, operating with much better spacing. Starting: 1st - Harden 2nd - Wood 3rd - Wall 4th - House Bench Unit (ie when Harden and Wood sit) 1st - Gordon 2nd - Cousins 3rd - Wall 4th - House it’s frustrating, but we’ve been through these kind of spells with House before. He should work his way out of it.
His defense on CJ especially on that last 3 was atrocious. He couldn’t get by Lilliard’s screen leaving the hottest person with that wide open 3 while he was complaining to the ref instead of a hard closeout.
Bubble behavior aside, I still want him gone. But keep starting him so that in trade talks Stone can say, "Hey, this guy is a 2-year starter on a contender."
He's streaky, when he's "on" he really elevates the offense but otherwise he's a pretty low IQ player. However, that contract was a steal but currently he will need to live up to it. It's early, so hopefully Silas can get to him and minimize his weaknesses.
