My network adapter always disappears, and I can’t get it back using “reset network adapters.” Lulz
Have to use the command line to remind Windows that I have one, and here it is, and give it this name again, fellas.

Everyone's out there talking about these Windows updates, but no one seems to be talking about the Windows to your soul... Kids, turn with me now to Matthew 6.....

Is it normal to reset and update and not have anything show up on the monitor? It's just a blank screen. Do I just wait it out?

You're supposed to turn the computer on before you update.

Ok, I was being mean. lol. You really have only a few choices.

    1) See if the hard drive light is going if you have lights to indicate hard drive activity. It may still be working, so ... wait.
    2) Turn your monitor off and then on. During a reboot, it may not have triggered the monitor to come on.
    3) If the above 2 don't work, restart the computer -- you really don't have much choic other than this or wait a while.

This has happened to me on updates before and restarting the PC has worked, btw. Not saying it will for you, but ...

They can save you money on utilities but the payback on a full house's worth is 15-20 years. Not worth in our house-hopping society.

Decided to go ahead and install the big update... it seems to have worked. Of course, I probably have Russian code running on my PC now, but whaddyagonnado?

I dislike the really massive updates on my PC. Something almost always gets wonky, but at least I have what has devolved into a somewhat vague understanding of what's going on with Windows. I hate the constant OS updates far more. My two grown kids find that endlessly amusing, although they attempt to appear sympathetic as they take a couple of minutes to straighten out whatever Apple ****ed up. It's always just when I thought I had a handle on what's going on with my iPhone and iPad. ****ing Apple.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Indeed. Good luck with the Russians. They can be nice. They aren't all bad :D
