I wouldn't jump to conclusions so fast. Just because one has a Grindr account doesn't mean one is gay. Maybe this guy was just looking for drinking or fishing buddies.

 

I feel bad for this guy. Maybe his dream was to be a lawmaker. Unfortunately in a red state like North Dakota, you have to toe the party line and make personal sacrifices if you want to serve. I think we have seen the slowly and slowly this has and will continue to become less of a wedge issue and then he will be able to be himself while also holding public office.

This actually isn't true at all. I used to live in North Dakota. Quite the opposite actually. North Dakota is one of the last states where you can comfortably run as a moderate Republican and not get primaried instantly.

Keep this in mind. The North Dakota Senate had already passed the same bill that Boehning voted against. And the North Dakota Senate also has a Republican supermajority. There were plenty of Republicans (including several in the house) that voted for the bill.

Rep. Boehning was just a tool. No one was going to punish him for voting for the bill. Plenty of other Republicans had already had the courage to vote yes. For some reason, he chose to vote no. That's totally on him and not the culture of the state.

Edit - Just looked this guy up. He's in district 27 which is South Fargo. No one would have cared one bit if he voted for the bill. Fargo routinely votes Democratic in federal elections. Hell Obama won the entire county in 2008 so I have zero sympathy for the guy. I hope he gets destroyed in the next election.

 

Don't know how he could go so long living this secretive life. That guy from Grindr who sold him out to the media should be ashamed of himself though. There's no excuse for infringing upon someone's privacy and claiming it was his right.
