And, of course, from the CM9 folks themselves:

Don't install Alpha... CM9 nightlies are the way to go. here is the official thread:

One more helpful link for installing CM9 for the first time:

    http://www.webosnation.com/how-install-cyanogenmod-9-android-your-touchpad

take your time, relax, and go through it step by step. It is really a pretty easy process if someone as non-technical as me can do it. Since then I have rooted my phone and changed ROMs wtice (now on Thundershed after BAMF SOAB... wow, what a difference in battery life). And soon I will be moving ICS onto the phone.

btw, once you get CM9 successfully loaded, I'd suggest changing to the TWRP recovery tool (replacing the CWM tool you will use in the initial CM9 install. TWRP has a touch interface that will make things easier to maintain and update your tablet. You actually install TWRP through a free Play Store app you should download called Goo Manager. Goo will help keep your system updated on the latest CM nighlies (and other ROMs) and latest GAPPs, not only alerting you to the latest but then automating the install process.

    Good luck and have fun!

I think I will just use the original operating system, it is fine for what I use the touchpad for, which is mostly for web browsing.

WebOS is a fine operating system. in fact, given its ability to multi-task, it may even be the best OS. Just look at Glimpse app as a great proof point. The downside is that development for the OS was minimal even when HP offered the tablet, and is almost nil since they dropped it. Android, on the other hand, has a huge development base, so you can find apps that meet most needs and interests.

That's one reason why adding Android and creating a dual-boot tablet is so cool... I can use the Android tablet for 95% of my needs, and the WebOS tablet when I need to skype or show people how cool WebOS was.
