More important than amount of practice is quality of practice. Fitness/coordination are critical. Developing moves, knowledge of the game, focus, ability to play as a team....I could go on and on.

Get into yoga and swimming. Best ways to improve every aspect of athleticism.

And yea it's going to require 10hrs a week bare minimum and obviously there are no guarantees someone will go pro no matter how much practice.

What is your race, height and age? I have developed a complex WSHH algorithm which can generate both the percentage and hours of practice needed to accomplish your goals.

If the kids are white/asian, better invest in their education instead.

Just like with baseball, and the preponderance of stupid "academies" and "private coaches", if you kid has natural talent he'll make it enough to go to college on it.

Odds are 99.999999% that your kid just doesn't have the talent.

My uncle took a loan and spent on his son to be a tennis player, worked nicely for a year and half before his son decided (Prof. sport career isn't what he wanted) ...,the loans and interest though didn't quit that easily on my uncle

Six hours a day of hoops, plus four hours a day of strength and conditioning. Only 20% of roles go to normal sized people, so he's probably got to be sprinter fast, have marathon stamina and jump like a gymnast.

Don't let this discourage you OP, even the awkward and untalented Jeff Van Gundy was an All-American PG for Nazareth. But of course, his dad was a legendary HS coach, who probably made his boys shoot video as middle schoolers and kept them up breaking down Game film until midnight after doing their homework.

Coach K was also Bobby Knight's starting PG at Army, but I guess playing for Army was as much about getting a Senator to nominate you as it was athletic talent.

That said, they had no shot at the pros...guess they didn't spend as many hours practicing dribbling and shooting like Bobby Hurley, and needed a complicated motion offense in which to excel. Maybe Europe...lols. See VSpan.

If they're black or Hispanic and the NBA still only takes 60 players a year, invest in their education as well. If they're white just give them a golf club and some Dale Carnegie books.

I just got back from coaching. We won the game, 20-1 and then they turned off the scoreboard. Everyone is impressed that my child can ball.

Wish I could coach my 5 year old too, he is too shy and timid that he shuts down and cries, his new coach is too loud.
