DeAnthony Melton is more Vernon Maxwell, a very good player.

I just hope we don't keep having those random losses to Memphis and Lakers.

I think we fall back to the high 50's. Some regression is natural based on the record we achieved last year versus what our metrics would've predicted. It doesn't mean we're a worse team though. There is some luck/randomness in regular season win totals.

Maybe the Warriors recently hitting 70 made people think 70 is easily achievable. There's a reason they haven't hit it again, why only 2 teams have ever hit 70 wins, and why only 53 teams have ever hit a 75% win percentage or better -- out of 1,484 team-seasons in NBA history (right now that's 62 wins).

(Fun fact: 22 of those 53 did not make the NBA finals. Another 7 lost in the finals). In other words, if you hit 70 wins you're in the top 0.1%, if you hit 62 wins you're in the top 3.6% of NBA regular season records, all-time.

I'm just here to rain on everyone's irrational optimism. Nothing comes easy. And those teams didn't have to compete with an MVP selling-out to a team that was already dynasty level.

If the Rockets did achieve 62 wins again, it would put them right up there with the 1984-86 Boston Celtics, who won 63 games in 84-85 but lost to the 62-win Lakers, then won 67 games in 85-86 and won the championship, or those same Lakers teams, or the Jordan Bulls who won 72 and 69 back to back in 1995-1997.

I'm not saying it's impossible. Just having a chuckle at the people here acting like it's all gravy.
