Abbreviated is one this. Butchering spelling and grammar is something else entirely. It makes you look stupid.
everyone is soooo anti. no one ever shorthands. I'll admit it...I shorthand things when it's easier...but also *when I know the other person knows the acronyms* otw, btw, brt, wtf, w/, b/c or bc or cause...surely some other stuff but I do write out "why", "you're", "your", "you", along with most things that require around the same amount of letters. Also, I use apostrophes where they're needed (I'm not answering the poll...I do have an issue with ridiculous shorthand texting, but I think a lot of it still makes sense. The reason for a text over an e-mail or a call is to deliver a short, instantaneous message. Sometimes it makes sense to abbreviate said message)
Typing "your" instead of "you're" is about as far as I'll go. That and "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less." I save alot of time that way. But overall I hate texting shortcuts.
I have Verizon If I am to send a text to a person that has a carrier other than Verizon, it only sends the 1st page of text (160 characters). A lot of times I have to go back and use the abbreviations to make it all fit. I hate doing that because it looks so stupid. But to my fellow verizon users I'll use full words.
I usually don't do the abbreviations unless I'm texting while driving. Then, I want to get my point across as soon/easy as possible.
No matter how you cut it, texting while driving is like driving while intoxicated. It only takes one brief moment when you're not paying attention.
